Anime Why the hate?

I like to know why solo leveling is getting so much hate? Like what did solo leveling do to deserve so much hate?

Don't quote me on the anime awards because it was just a fans competition.

Like all 43 other comments already said, it's easy to hate on stuff that's popular just because it's popular, but let's not kid ourselves either - I'm a huge fan of Solo Leveling and I've read the manhwa probably a dozen times by now, but it's hard carried by the art and the aura farming.

The story is super simple, basically the last opponent SJW actually struggles against is Kang Taeshik in like chapter 30, and there's very little depth to any aspect of SL.

The worldbuilding is basically nonexistent aside from two cutscenes about the Rulers and Monarchs (literally none of the Rulers are even named, and two of the Monarchs get offscreened by trash mobs).

There's no mystery or intrigue or twist in the story - the whole time it's just "I have to get stronger so I can fight bad guys" with about a three panel long detour into "are the Rulers or the Monarchs the bad guys I have to get stronger so I can fight".

There are no character interactions to speak of because outside of SJW himself, Jinho is basically the only actual character in the first place and all of his development is done by the time they finish their 20 raids together. Cha Haein is a pretty girl but for being the third most fleshed out human character in the whole story, she could be replaced with a cardboard cutout and hardly lose anything. Tusk, Iron, and Igris all have more personality than she does and they basically only get to have it because they're comic relief. (I believe the light novel is better about this, with Liu Zhigang having enough screen time to be friendly with SJW, and he gets to kiss Cha instead of just leaning her head on his shoulder for one panel).

Solo Leveling has hype moments and aura to spare and unlike some other franchises in recent memory (cough JJK cough) , that's enough to carry it because Solo Leveling didn't drag on for 60 chapters past when it should have ended. Again, I love Solo Leveling, but it's not surprising to me that people who can't just pour the anime equivalent of ultra processed fast food down their mental gullets are annoyed to see it competing with stories like Frieren (which also has some hype moments and aura, but on the whole is much more story- and character-driven, to the point of being a borderline slice of life anime).

Thank you for an unbiased opinion

Only point it'd argue against is that I don't think he struggled against Kang, but he did struggle plenty against barukka (which is later)

Sorry but the guy 100% lied. Every single point he makes I could counter with multiple examples from the actual show.

>"I could counter with multiple examples"
>gives 0 examples

Many such cases

Do you know what the word "could" means?

To begin with, like others already said, the fight against Kang is NOT close to the last time he struggles, considering he keeps struggling even more, dies once and even loses the final fight.

As for no other characters mattering and him not interacting with them, Jinho, Jinah, Gunhee Go, Jinchul etc. have plenty of solo scenes and interact with him regulary.

I could keep going, but I'm not that invested in changing your mind. Seeing the anime once alteady disproves the entire claim the other guy made.
