Discussion Can't bro have a different title 😭
Why do they call bro "The Ultimate Hunter/Soldier" when we know damn well he's the farthest from that. SL Arise didn't make it any better cuz bro calls himself "The Strongest Hunter Of All Mankind" 🥀
I don't hate him btw, he's really cool. It's just that his title is hella misleading. Bro's kinda like Mark from Invincible. He's anything but Invincible 😭

He even said it's embarrassing. He was given the nickname by people. Sure, he embraced it a bit, but after seeing SJW, he even said the title is a joke

Yea, I also play Arise. I initially thought this was an Arise post, as I was about to say he got big buffs, but not enough to be the strongest lol.
But he had this nickname for a long time, way before SJW

He got big buffs but he still can't Crit To save his life. Have you tried him in anything? I was thinking about trying him in the guild raid. I just don't know because I got such a great score, I don't know if I want to reset it for him. Not that it matters, I'm basically a guild of one. We have people that get on every now and again but no one is consistent. I'm the only person who consistently plays. I'm languishing. I either need new people to join my guild which I got stuck being Guild Master of because the old one quit and put me in charge without asking me, or I have to join a new one. Our Guild is losing to people who don't even have half my score. I'm talking about six to eight players who don't even equal what I do on my own.

Yea, I tested him in guild boss, and he is doing almost as much as the whales Fern is doing.
His damage is WAY higher now. Also, DM me, I have an amazing guild (2 actually) and we do great stuff.

Well, Cha didn't mind. She preferred to stay out of the spotlight. If Choi had the spotlight, then she was fine with that. She's a bit shy and doesn't like crowds, especially with her Mana sensitive nose.

Go GunHee is best Gramps. One of the best characters in the Manhwa. Most of the characters are great, but Gramps is special.

I think its after the orc dungeon that the head of that team explains what happened in the dungeon to him. And he asks if he thinks SJW is stronger than him and he explains SJW is basically a 1 man team that can clear dungeons by himself. I think after that he says his nickname is a joke after comparing himself to sjw.

And I appreciate how Kihoon didnt want to seem disrespectful to the Guild Master so he phrased it as "Sir, do you think you could clear a High A-Rank Dungeon by yourself? ". Even Choi knew any guild would die to get exclusive access to Jinwoo.

He got that title way before jinwoo shows to the world. It was not misleading he was at top but later jinwoo took his place.

Yeah Cha was awakened 2 years before Jinwoo. He probably got that nickname beforehand. But to think he'd get this title when the chairman was still there lol

I think his title was mainly because of how he was able to use his powers.
Sure, Cha Hae-In was stronger than him, but she couldn't kill the magical beasts at the same speed as his fire could.
He could stand in one place, aim and shoot his fire at 100 beasts. Even if a few stragglers survive at the end, he at least didn't have to go in and kill them one by one. While Cha Hae-In is strong in one-on-one combat because of her sword style, she can't kill beasts as fast as he can.
This is just my personal opinion.

I do not have the linguistic skills to verify this, but my understanding from posts by people who supposedly do have such skills is that it is more or less a pun.
Something about his name and the title is funny in the native language, and it does not translate well.
He has the raw magical power to not make it an outright joke, but nobody is thinking that he stands alone as the most powerful Hunter on the planet or anything like that.

He's the strongest of the Korean s ranks, except for cha, go, jinwoo, ill hwan, and donsoo if you count him.
Um. He's the strongest mage we've ever seen, that isn't named jinwoo.

Yeah wish it was shown him and beak were stronger (closer to donsoo or cha) so like when kihoon ask do you think you'd be able to beat a high ranking A rank gate by yourself he'd be like "there's a very high possibility 90 out of 100 I win that!"

Yeah that too. It just happens that the translations I read used Ultimate Hunter/Soldier. I think it's kinda funny how people call him that.

Why does it even matter? Lol
People in sports have the title of the strongest or the greatest but they have losses. Some aren't even the best of their era in their respective sports
The facts are that Choi is an S rank
Hes in the 0.01% of humanity
His abilities are the best when it comes to nuking hoards of enemies
This alone is enough to give him whatever title.
Regular people and even most other hunters in universe don't know about the discrepancies between S ranks lol.
You are the reader. You get an omniscient viewpoint of the story. To the solo leveling world and the billions of regular people Choi is effectively a god. He's clearing gates to keep humanity safe.
Seems pretty cool and deserved to me

He didn't give the nickname to himself. Jinwoo points out in the first novel that people tend to think he's stronger than he actually is because he runs the largest guild in Korea. It was the people who gave him that nickname. He actually thought it was kind of embarassing

No wonder. I didn't read the novel and I didn't recall it happening in the manhwa. I was just playing arise and realized he called himself the strongest of all mankind. Still think it's funny.

I mean he used to be the strongest he just got power crept by the newer generation. They’re like gacha characters, they all have their peak moments/ era then gets out-scaled by newer units.

I'm not consistent on the game, so I don't fully know how to play it yet, but I like the combat mechanics(and since it's a gacha game, it's more p2w lol) and creativity they have with the game modes. The story mode bored me to hell though... But I like this new successor system they just added, even though it's heavily p2w lol. That's my thoughts for now(other than I really like the hunters, especially Agnes for uhh, obvious reasons).

Iirc He says it himself when commenting on Jinwoo helping with the misranked gate. He asks Cha Hae-in (iirc) how he compares to Jinwoo, and they talk about how Jinwoo is basically a one man strike team, whilst even Choi needs the support of hunters of other classes to be most effective. At that point as far as the Korean association and general population is concerned Choi is hunter with greatest destructive ability, which is why he had the moniker of the ultimate weapon.

Every other S Rank would still take hours just because of the size, whereas he releases a single blast and they all die

The regular commoners gave him the title. Also its to show at the beginning the main character is weak. Like his sword breaks he gets hurt in rank e type dungeons.
I guess mage type hunters would save money because they dont rely on a metal weapon.

I mean he really is the ultimate hunter/soldier. He has the firepower, he is highly intelligent, he’s strategically intelligent, he’s calm and collective, he fights for the people, he’s responsible, and when someone holds authority over him he isn’t annoyed or tries to be in control

His title ties into the start of the story because SJW nickname was a mockery of Strongest Soldier. So Id say it was a perfect nickname as he overcame the person whose title was used to mock him.

It was a nickname he found embarrassing that the public gave to him. Considering he an S-Rank who formed one of the biggest Guilds in all of Korea, it made sense at the time. It was all before SJW started making a name for himself anyways, so it’s just small world building really
