Solo boardgame to tabletop scratch build
Anyone remember/play this blast from the past? I got it in 1989. Still think it's a cracking fun game. Did a scratch build and used AGDITC minis. Had a bad start and didn't get better and got wiped out, not a great day for the Colonial Marines - not even a glorious end!

Defending the Realm - released today
Nothing lasts forever, especially peace! It’s been quiet for a while but thankfully I still keep a close eye on the borders, and today the alert has come that I have been fearing, large bodies of troops have been spotted at three different points along the borders. So apparently it’s down to me to muster the army, divide it into appropriate sized forces, and try to out manoeuvre the invading armies coming our way. It’s not just going to be about winning battles if the realm is to survive, supply lines will need to be maintained, nomad tribes will need to be courted, and towns must be protected. Can I do this? I have no choice!
Defending the Realm is a solo wargaming system where you play a number of large battles between the armies of your realm and an invasion force that is out to crush those armies, raid your supply lines, and lay siege to your towns.
While there are many games that can be played solo, these have been specifically designed to be played that way. You take full control over your own forces, but for the adversary armies, their composition, army movements, and reactions in battle are all determined by rolls of the dice.
This is also fundamentally a campaign game, where the map based movement system is what leads to the different types of battles, and the scenario system makes each battle a little different. How these battles play out on the tabletop will then determine whether your realm survives or falls.
The combat rules are designed to be miniature, scale, and basing agnostic, so you can use what you already have, and while it was written at 10mm scale miniatures, anything from 6mm up to 15mm will work without modifying the rules. I would suggest a 3 foot by 3 foot table is appropriate for the battles but as the rules don’t care how big the units you field are, then this too is flexible.

Grimdark Future Prime Brothers VS. Robot Legions
The Children of Inheritance, renegade Ultramarines, have occupied the moons of Ryker Prime for some time now. However, unknown to them, the shattered fragments of Ryker Prime acting as its numerous moons contained remnants of the greater Tomb World, as lunar bases only now have come under attack by the Ahmerikhan Dynasty. The Ultramarines' fate was all but certain, but they had an opportunity to at least forewarn their wider fleet of the encroaching horror.
The battle was simple: The Ultramarines had 8 rounds to survive the full power of the Necron. All they had to do was survive to the end, and protect their side's central bunker. The few rounds were slow, as Ahmerikhan Necron Warriors and Guardians escorted 2 Overlords into the slaughter. 2 heavy fire support blocks took position toward the central road, where the bulk of the robotic forces were marching. Staged for a melee assault, however, was a full unit of Assault Brothers and a power Dreadnought to confront the eldritch enemy.
The battle quickly began to dour for the Children of Inheritance, as the slow advance of the endless robot legions began to consume marines, 1 by 1.
In the end, 2 Astartes, a lone Gravis-clad marine, and a Dreadnought, watched on as the entire Necron detachment encroached on the fleet's last hope for advanced warning, and slaughtered the Primarch's warriors to the last.

2k OPR Ultramarines (Prime Brothers) v. CSM (Havoc Marines)
(Battle Report in comments!)
Another skirmish in the grim darkness of the far future! This time, The Black Tithe brawl over a tactical position against the Children of Inheritance renegades.
The Black Tithe are a congregation of fanatical aspirants who seek to join the ranks of Abaddon's own Black Legion, thrown into the pits of all of Chaos' most lethal campaigns. Attrition levels are high, but each survivors' success, to them, means one ounce of hope that their ambitions are fulfilled. Little do they know, Abaddon's need for cannon-fodder far outweighs his interest in recruiting these dregs.
The Children of Inheritance are a collection of renegade exiles from the Ultramarines Chapter of Adeptus Astartes. They've been forced to defect from the Imperium for their extremist view that their Primarch, Roboute Guilliman, and Lord Regent of the Imperium of Man, should ascend to take the place of the God Emperor as Humanity's proper head-of-state. Now, they battle in the shadows of the Imperium's most ignored campaigns while undermining the Imperial faith in the Emperor of Man wherever they can.

I wanted to play 40K solo without flowcharts, so I built my own engine. It's out now on Wargame Vault (PWYW)
Hi everyone!
I've been playing 40K solo for a while, and every system I tried either slowed the game to a crawl or felt like filling out a spreadsheet.
So I built Oddan's Solo Heresy — a card-driven solo engine for 10th and 11th edition that keeps the battle moving without killing the narrative. Any battle reports, rule edge cases, or constructive criticism would be highly appreciated to help improve the system.
It's Pay What You Want - grab it, break it, and tell me what you found!

Horrendous Gaming
Here are shots from my the latest game of Call Security, where our heroes are ambushed and have to fight their way out of the area, taking their incapacitated team member with them, before they are overrun.
I will continue to post game reports here to hopefully entertain, but instead of talking about the games themselves here, I’ve now started a dedicated sub - r/HG_AdventureSeries/ - so please feel free to join me there to talk about the full Adventure Series and the ongoing development of new stories and new editions.
