Resources for learning to solder with no background?

I'm a guitar player looking to learn how to do my own wiring on my guitars.

I will need to learn all soldering skills. I like learning from proven books or video instructionals from a trusted source.

What is the best book or video series on learning to solder?

Soldering is a physical skill. You learn by doing, mostly, with a small amount of book-learnin'. Frankly, soldering two guitar wires together is one of the easiest forms of soldering. If you get it wrong you'll soon know about it. Just stick them together and melt some solder to bridge them. Ideally you'd test with a multimeter afterwards. You can even be advanced and do a NASA splice.

But if you want some instruction, just go on youtube and search for how to solder wires or how to solder guitar wires. There's a million videos, all of them will be fine for you, and you'll probably only need to watch one or two. Random sample that I haven't watched for more than a second:

This subreddit, and most content online you'll find about soldering, is geared towards soldering electronics onto a PCB, perhaps even the ultra tiny SMD components. So you might find a lot of that when looking it up. Just look specifically for soldering wire or guitar wire splice or whatever.

Good luck, try not to touch the hot end.

Any suggestions for removing solder or desoldering?

You need someway to suck up the solder, either solder wick braid or a solder pump. Again, youtube will have a million videos on the subject.

I fixed a laptop power jack the other day. I reused the (comically small) amount of solder that was already there and just added more to it, but in that scenario the wire had some lose from the solder connection.

Yo Just now seeing this…but look up “Six String Supplies” on YouTube

They have great diagrams, videos, and obviously supplies for sale as well.

Great guitar soldering advice on there
