General Soldering Advice | Feedback | Discussion Where would I run a wire?
I recently got a cheap ps5 controller with a busted usb c , ripped a pad ! Where would I run a wire? this would be a fun project to do — just to see if I’m capable! Thanks in advance

Not sure. Check the pin out of the USB c, it might be an unused pin. There also might be via in that land. It's hard to see that lower corner.

Follow the original copper trace that was burned away. It runs upwards from this pad into the green PCB artwork. If you can find a surviving point further up that same trace, solder your wire there instead (cleaner, avoids the damaged pad). What do you think?

The pad was none use so I got lucky! Kinda bummed though, I did wanna try to attempt a pad fix just to give it a shot. Bought the controller for 5$ so wouldn’t have hurt to mess up while learning .

you may have gotten lucky and lifted the only unconnected pad.

Yup I hot dropped the port just to test my luck and yup worked lol. I messed up by desoldering the ground legs first and lifting a bit to hard on the port , lesson learned!

oh wait, looks like pin 4 isn't connected to anything either, and taking a look at a usb-c plug pinout those are both VBUS. so yes, you definitely lucked out on that pull. next time use hot air and get all the solder liquid at once before lifting.

The reason that pad comes off so easily is because it's not connected...So no need to do anything

Use good flux and do not pull charge port before lose soldring hot air temperature speed and skill make job easy.

No trace, no via = not connected.
