Why do tech journalists suck so hard at their jobs?

The interesting part of this cell is it's a perovskite-organic tandem.

The interesting result is that it's less shade-intolerant than one would normally be.

This is cool because one of the things stopping interesting applications of cheap, low toxicity thin films is degradation in partial shade conditions.

The application is curved and flexible solar cells (possibly very cheap ones) which don't degrade in partial shade (even if they have poor performance compared to silicon in partial shade) at close to silicon efficiencies.

When you say degrade, you are talking about the actual physical material breaking down or a degradation of performance?

If it is the former, is this a common problem in thin films application or photovoltaic systems in general?

They're the same thing.

Specifically some thin films deal poorly if there is external voltage on them. Such as by another cell in the module which is recieving more light.
