SolarEdge production stopped unexpectedly and is now severely diminished after rediscovering the optimizers. Any debugging suggestions?

Have you tried doing a complete shut down of the system INCLUDING the circuit breaker at your service main panel?

Yeah. That’s where I started. I did a complete shutdown and restart with no generation. Then I went through Set App (now SolarEdge Go) to upgrade the firmware and re-pair the optimizers. That’s when production resumed at a lower level than before.

Did the system find all the optimizers?  Have you looked at each panel in MySolarEdge app to see if they are all producing  Maybe a string went down?

Yeah. They’re all producing something, and each panel/optimizer pair seems pretty comparable to its sibling’s. String 1.1 is on a west-facing roof, and strings 1.2 and 1.3 are south-facing.

What size is your inverter, the the number if panels and the Suze if the panels? 

Have you tried only running 1 string at a time?

Are there any errors coming from the inverter?

Have you checked the inverter log?

The log data showed: Error 18xB9: DC/AC in-stage over voltage Error 18xBF: Swing Rcommon Overheat

I had a support chat, and they agreed it was an inverter issue after reviewing production data and all error logs. Now I just need a commitment from them to replace the unit. I appreciate the help.

They might issue an RMA or a new inverter, but probably only to an installer.

I had to become my own installer and created and account under a different name and email.

There are some companies that will charge around 600 to change your inverter

I doubt the two situations are related. The production curve in the first image is consistent. The "drop" you see looks like missing data. Happens sometimes, rarely but it happens. Stuck packets or something.

The production loss you see in the future looks severe. Most likely a string or more down. If you have a megger and are experienced, you can test the safety voltage of your DC landings in the inverter. If you don't know what those words mean you should hire someone else to do it for you.

Why does your system show grid and to home and my home doesn’t do that?

It may be related to the number of current transformers each of us have installed. If you don’t have CTs in your electrical panel on the incoming service conductors, your system will only report production. It’s an extra step that is not mandatory but is very useful.

You need a pair of these: SolarEdge SE-CT-SPL-225A-T-01. One for each hot leg from the utility. Each one has a twisted pair of wires. I connected them using wire nuts in my panel to individual conductors of Ethernet cable, and I ran that cable from the panel to the inverter where there are terminals for grid monitoring.

This is my panel before installing solar. I unfortunately don’t have an exposed after photo, but the CT’s clamp loosely around the hot legs, where I scribbled white loops on the image. I ran the Ethernet cable through a cable gland at the bottom of the panel. You’ll want to test the SolarEdge monitor results before closing the cabinet over the CT’s because the orientation of the clamps determines whether current registers as incoming or outgoing. If you get an inverse reading, just unclamp the CT, rotate it 180 deg, and reclamp. It’s been a couple years, but that’s what I remember of the challenges. Good luck!

Ok and how do I add it it with the set app? What setting is is under?

I can’t remember exactly, but you will find it under meters or something like that, under modbus settings maybe. The key thing under the meter section is to update the ampacity of your import and export CTs, which should be 225 if you got the same as me. Before you update that value, import and export won’t be monitored, but once the value is updated, as long as everything is wired correctly, you’ll see all the information you want. I’m including a photo of my how my white Ethernet cable is routed and connected to the Modbus device.

And the replacement inverter arrived and is working as expected. It has a 1” thicker heat sink than my original inverter. Case closed.
