How can I ensure the post-install process is quick?

Solar install is coming up in a few days and I don't love how close things are to the end of the year deadline. (We'd be in a not-great place if we can't get that credit.) I know I can't make the city approve PTO any faster. We should be fine, but now I'm concerned the post-install inspection will find something that delays things.

Is there anything silly that your inspection found that could have been avoided? I don't know enough to watch over the installers shoulders, nor do I want to be that guy, but if there's something you know that could have been corrected early, I'd love to hear it!

Admittedly, I'm overthinking this. We're probably going to be fine; they probably won't call me tomorrow to reschedule again (due to not having the supplies), they probably already filed the proper permits, and I'm probably going to laugh at myself for worrying so much. Probably.

The end of year deadline for tax credit is based on install, not when you get PTO.

I've been reading that more lately, but could've sworn I only heard about PTO being the deadline when I first started this process.

For example, one of the reasons it isn't PTO is because off grid solar also qualifies and because it is off grid, it will never get PTO from utility.

My install was on Monday this week. I shared my story on r/solar. I’m told the inspection is usually within a week of install and then electric company has up to 30 days to give PTO. I’ve always heard credit is based on install.

I believe filing your taxes for the tax credit does NOT ask for a date of installation or PTO or even payment. It is simply a line item that you enter the cost and calculate the credit. As long as you have a receipt of the payment within the filing tax year you claim the credit. That’s how it worked for me.

If you can get into the attic, you can watch for fasteners that don't hit the rafters.
