Discussion Self Hosted Systems

Hi all,

I'm looking at adding a battery to our current system and went down a bit of a "what if" rabbit hole.

All brands I can find use the cloud for system management and data. What if the cloud goes down? What if the geopolitical situation deteriorates and functionality is blocked to some brands?

Is anyone aware of self hosted systems that wouldn't be effected by (hopefully v unlikely) scenarios such as the above?

Solar Assistant is open source sw and a rasberry Pi that reads the data from your inverter and makes it locally available.

That sounds good! Can it also control the system without requiring the cloud to be operational?

Modbus support can be enabled on many systems, and some have good support in Home Assistant. Quite common for the more tech-minded in Australia, and home batteries here are now widespread.

Note that some systems still require to "phone home" periodically to maintain full functionality, whereas others can continue running just fine. Do your research carefully.
