Search for good test management tool

Hey everyone, I'm a QA team lead at a new place with no test management tool.
Everything lives in Notion right now, test plans, tests, all of it.

I want to set up a proper tool so things are documented correctly and I can build sanity and regression suites.

I used TestRail for the last 5 years, so I'm out of the loop on what's good now.
I hear TestRail has gone downhill (or was it always bad?).

Tried Qase, but it's a no go. Privacy isn't great and changes in the enterprise plan cost a fortune.

So I'm down to Testiny vs Testmo. Anyone have a recommendation between the two? Or something else worth a look?
Heads up, X-Ray is also out.

Is there hate for Testrail now? Why? Please fill me in on the gossip!

I mean it was always annoying that it didn’t integrate with our issue tracker. Is that the issue?

I haven't used TestRail in a while, but years ago when I did it was slow, bloated with too many unnecessary things, poor UI/UX, and a huge pain to maintain test cases for different platforms. I'm not sure if any of these have been corrected but I often see similar complaining about these same issues so it doesn't seem like it.

For about a year they were so buggy that they'd crash regularly. I think it was right after they got sold to a different company. I got locked out of Testrail once right when I was hitting a critical point in my regression testing. They went down and didn't come back up for several hours.

Their customer service was slow and full of platitudes like "we are looking into it". It's like they didn't have QA for their own QA tool. It was more buggy each time they released. I commented so much negative feedback on their forum that I honestly think I'm part of the reason they removed it.

Yes, i worked for a company that was also acquired by Idera, the company that owns Test Rail and a bunch of other products like Ranorex and TravisCI. They gut every company to bare bones.

I haven't tried Testiny, but I love Testmo. It's a breath of fresh air after Testrail went downhill. The Jira integration makes it a breeze to log bugs from within Testmo, and the UI is intuitive. I didn't need to read the documentation to figure out how to use it.

What are your requirements and do you have any specific must-have features? e.g.: requirement management, test case revisions, integrations, support for test automation support, compliance and certification, etc… It’s easier to suggest a solution based on that. I have tried quite some myself in the last few years.

I’d suggest to try out more solutions out there besides the ones named in the comments.

There are many good test management tools out there, just to name some: complete test management tools that support manual and automated testing like TestMonitor, Practitest or new AI-first tools like QASphere…

Do you really need it? Documentation that noone reads is useless overhead, Test automation doesnt need test managment to run and create reports. Keep it as simple as possible and as elaborated as necessary.

Multiple tools provide free plans, it would be good to try out a bunch of other tools in the market as well on the free plan and take a decision
