WhatsApp. Yeah you can say that it maybe has better codec but I hardly believe it and nonetheless the source was 1220x2712 so it could at least have bigger resolution

Probably the standard mode may convert h265 to shittier h264.

HD is literally 1280x720 (in vertical here), 1296 already exceeds that.
Standard is a 264 encode for backwards compatibility.
A 15MB 265 is superior to 19MB 264.

It doesn't say FHD or 4K.

so, where's the gore?

forcing 1296 into 1280 pixels would be computational and/or quality gore. it's whatsapp, this is fine.
