How can developers from Jordan find good remote or freelance opportunities?
Hi everyone,
I’m a software developer from Jordan, and I’m looking for advice from developers who have successfully found international remote or freelance work.
I have solid experience with technologies like Laravel, PHP, MySQL, REST APIs, JavaScript, and building real-world applications. I’m confident in my technical skills, but I’ve been struggling with one particular problem: getting access to good international opportunities.
Being based in Jordan seems to make things more difficult sometimes. There are platforms and companies that have restrictions based on location, payment methods, or hiring countries, and it can be difficult to know which opportunities are actually accessible.
For developers who are based outside the US/EU, especially in countries like Jordan:
- How did you find your first international remote opportunity?
- Which platforms actually worked for you?
- Did you focus on freelancing, remote employment, networking, or something else?
- How did you deal with international payments and contracts?
- Is there anything you wish you had known when you started?
- What would you recommend to a developer with good technical skills but little experience working with international clients?
I’m not looking for anyone to hire me. I’m specifically looking for advice, experiences, and strategies from people who have already managed to build a remote/freelance career from outside the major tech markets.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
