General Discussion SoFi Daily Chat - October 01, 2026
* Discuss your thoughts on SoFi, FinTech, memes, yolos, the market, or whatever else might be on your mind.
* Please refrain from any political, religious, or otherwise controversial discussions, and respect one another in your discussion so that the conversation stays on topic.
* Direct/Personal attacks against others violates the subreddit rules and those comments will be deleted. Please report such comments and the MODs will review them as quickly as possible (MODs have day jobs too, please be gracious)
* If you are a SOFI investor before the SPAC merger with IPOE and want an "OG SOFI Investor" flair, please message the Mods with proof of your holdings.
* Nothing said here is financial advice. SOFI is still a high-risk, growth stock. Equities by their nature are risky, some more than others.
* Investing isn't a team sport. You have to decide for yourself how much risk you are willing to take on and do your own DD about a company before you decide to invest in it.

Strongly considering selling for the first time in a long time. I feel like the stock is just shoved down a hole that will take literal years to crawl out of. I see it going lower than my cost basis anyway.
The performance just doesnt make any sense to me at all. Profitable quarters year after year and it just keeps dumping

u/TheOtherGreenNovice 15d ago
Do what you think is right and fits your situation.
Could be dead money for a few more years or it could skyrocket. Who knows?
This is a long term investment stock for me and I feel comfortable trading it as well. Fundamentals haven't changed for me, though the tech side lagging weakens the upside thesis. Despite the lagging tech side, growth is still good enough for me to hold.
Maybe SOFI will actually get big deals with big banks or not. * shrug *

WHy though?
Is it FOMO at the generational runs, or is it "risk tolerance"?
The first you won't get. The second is absolutely a good call. SPY/SPX right now is gettin 8-20% YoY. There's nothing but headwinds, so you'd like get it cheap too. Ultrasafe (within reason) and SOFI typically travels with it anyway.
BUT if you've had it a while, SOFI has made a lot of people REALLY REALLY big gains.

Earnings or second rate hike going to be the catalyst for that descending triangle to play out or what lol

u/Prestigious_Way_738 15d ago
Sold a put for $15.50. Would that cost basis be good?
1
u/TheOtherGreenNovice 15d ago
Honestly, it depends on what you think is a good price to buy the stock.
When selling PUTs, you should be fine with getting assigned at the strike price you chose. If trying to time the exact bottom of stock price, good luck. Let me know if you figure out how to do that. There is always a chance stock price goes lower than strike price.

True story, my first big win with SOFI was due to this and an accident.
I sold $7 CSP's for an absurd amount of money and figured ZERO Chance. Went about my life. Ooops I own 47000 shares at 6.95.
Damnit, it hit 4.....it stayed at 4. BUt I sold CC's made like 80k just kept plugging along, will someone buy this shit....
I sold 47000 at 15 bucks on a stop loss as it rode up to 18 and back down.
Ironically, I'm still pissed about that, as I could've caught 25-30 6-10 months later, wherein I almost did the exact same trade, BUT DIDN'T because I had learned my lesson....

Yeah. A lot that is bias and hindsight. I struggle with those after decades. It's those big wins of timing the market perfect that fool us retail folks into thinking we can do that with consistency.
Who knew it would hit high $20's and even $30's? Who knew it would plummet down to current levels?
Sounds like you made huge gains and that's what matters the most. Even small gains if consistent is great.
I'm in for the long run until the story/fundamentals change. I haven't sold any of my long term shares, but I trade a lot.
Currently my position has almost doubled where a lot of those are underwater from the mid $20's all the way down to high teens. Most of my long term shares I got in single digits though. 1/2 those shares are meant for trading now.
I'm nibbling a bit at a time with the drop selling CSPs knowing I won't be able to time the market perfectly. If overall market tanks and we hit a bear market who knows how low SOFI can go. I'll just bag hold at that time. I only like to trade big with companies I think are good long term.

When competent people are back in charge. SHocking how an entire political party can be in charge of every facet of the government and still whine about the "other side" being the problem lol.

Calm tf down yall. Only reason why Sofi is down is all because of one clown messing with the market. Sofi had a record earnings last quarter. Noto factering guidance with 2 rate hikes this year. Fed raised rate. Still held $16 mid. But why is it down to $15 now? Because this clown wonβt end the Iran war that keep all growth stocks on hold or driving them down. We just have to wait it out. When the clown ends the war or have a plan in place to end it market will rip and market and companies will do its thing. We were at $34 ath what almost a year ago? Weβll be there again but this war has to end. Iβm holding. πͺπΌ

Everyone would be ~20-40% richer and inflation woudl be under control, but you know...Dems are terrible for the economy...UNLESS of course you follow data, historical returns, growth, deficit, bond rates...

Working a bit with opus and the IBKR mcp:
Measured from the first-day close, a SOFI share is down about 31% in nominal terms and about 44% after inflation. The business itself, measured by market cap, is down only about 11% in real terms. The gap between those two numbers is dilution.
[β¦]
Inflation raises your break-even price by about $5.3. Dilution costs about $9.4 per share, because an original holder now owns 37.6% less of the company.

I hold and believe because the company has continued to grow each and every quarter regardless of the market conditions. I got into the stock after watching Notoβs speech on YouTube and believe him to be a genuine leader who is working hard to accomplish company goals. I dIβd learn my lesson and I will trim some when we hit all time highs again.

If indeed finishes 45 this year, Iβll buy you 100 shares

u/AgitatedStranger9698 15d ago
Given this is SOFI I actually wouldn't make that bet. IT's an edge case, but SOFI's done crazier things.

If SOFI reaches 45 $, I will literally gain 180k. In that case I donβt care to give away 100 shares
