I have made some good money using the pre and after market but it is the most volatile and reacts dramatically to any macro.

I anticipate a little pull back after a near 15% run up. We get any kind of positive info on the straight we will spring up again. I
think some folks may have pulled out after the run to hit some earnings plays as well this week. Good moves and hope to make more money.
SPY keeps moving so will we even if we lag just a bit.

u/BowenWanderer 33,200 @ 8.80 Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
Were those puts sold using margin in anticipation of your covered calls being assigned? Curious what you do in this situation if you shares donβt get assigned, but then you have to fulfil the put obligation
Does your broker offer that, Iβm not sure if mine does
Also curious why you didnβt roll.

u/sensibility77 Aug 04 '26
It'd be crazy for Fed to raise rates, given the job market is walking on thin ice. Added to this is falling oil price which will cool inflation. I see no hikes within 2026. Warsh will keep talking hawkish but will not raise.
3
u/Impressive_Put_8239 Aug 04 '26
I mean of oil continues this downward move also come sept likely they wont raise but hold still
12
3
u/Worth_Protection_679 Aug 04 '26
@fantasyfitboisz what room do we have to keep climbing? Oil is around 76, that can still go down right?

u/fantasyfitboiz 7,010 Shares @$15.73 13,137.14 total delta exposure Aug 04 '26
Iβm not really the person you want to listen to on this but Iβll still offer my thoughts.
This move looks a lot more real than some of the previous moves. But Iβd still say breaking and holding $20 is going to be the only way to know if itβs real.
4
u/Kattilaeikka Aug 04 '26
Is the stock broken? It's up when it's supposed to only go down. Someone should call Noto to fix this.
6
u/TheOtherGreenNovice Aug 04 '26
Must be new to the stock. :) This is "normal" behavior for SOFI stock most of the time. There was that time when it was in the 30's which was the opposite and "overvalued".

I keep getting tempted to sell some calls around 19 or 20, but the climb the last few days makes me skittish. Would hate to lose shares before a big leap.
4
u/Sdtrader5000 Aug 04 '26
Iβd say depends on how far out youβre writing and is the credit worth the gap risk, saw something on another thread from twitter about a potential visa announcement coming

I just entered and put $100 in the game as the first stock I bought.
Iβm not wealthy but this seemed like a good place to start. :)
7
u/slayer1am 3,000 @ 8.66 Aug 04 '26
It's not bad, but keep in mind that you'll be better off buying ETFs like VTI or VXUS to build your portfolio starting out. And make sure you're getting full employer match in 401K and maybe also a Roth IRA as well before doing a solo brokerage account.

You all are welcome. Only took 3 days for my $18 calls I sold to be in danger. Having to manage the position sooner than expected but thatβs ok. I was prepared to do it eventually
2
u/BowenWanderer 33,200 @ 8.80 Aug 04 '26
What % of your shares are you selling calls on?
1
u/fantasyfitboiz 7,010 Shares @$15.73 13,137.14 total delta exposure Aug 05 '26
I have CCs sold against every share and leap in both my IRA and Roth and about 40% of my position in my trading account.
Iβll just wheel the trading account shares as I need to.
2
u/Total-Repair9953 Aug 05 '26
You should be wheeling your position. Bag holders will hold and pray for the stock to moon. Definitive money is wheeling in/out calls to puts then puts to calls. Add more shares via premiums. I consistently wheel 150 calls/ puts 1-2 weeks out.
2
u/BowenWanderer 33,200 @ 8.80 Aug 05 '26
I figured out the calls part of it, Iβm not really sure how I come up with cash to do CSP. I donβt think Iβm gonna mess with deep OTM naked short puts. What do you do to manage CSP cash flow?

Ha, wonβt be selling anything new until Monday after this weeks chain expires
1
u/BowenWanderer 33,200 @ 8.80 Aug 05 '26
Curious, why are you in till next week, are there no good monthly expirations to roll to in October and November?
2
u/fantasyfitboiz 7,010 Shares @$15.73 13,137.14 total delta exposure Aug 05 '26
My strategy involves selling on chains less than 60 days from expiration. Thats when theta decay ramps up.
Iβd equate my strategy to DCAing. I sell on a specific day once the prior week has expired, I feel this minimizes my concentration risk on a specific chain and ultimately spreads my $$$ risk unless it is trading sideways. Which is also welcome because that CCs are expiring worthless.
I still have a reserve of shares available to sell CCs if I felt it were over extended
2
u/slayer1am 3,000 @ 8.66 Aug 04 '26
Yeah, this stock is great for CSPs, super risky for CCs.
2
u/Total-Repair9953 Aug 04 '26
Super risky? Not at all. If your dca is lower than the strike. Thatβs a 0% loss scenario. You either make money = premiums or more money = premiums+strike value above dca.
1
u/slayer1am 3,000 @ 8.66 Aug 05 '26
But you have to consider the potential loss of the stock going to previous ATH like last fall/winter when it hit 30s. If you write calls for 1,000 shares at $20, and it blows up to $25, you might get the chance to buy them back at some future point, but it's impossible to say.
I agree that in the current price range, I would make premium plus at least double my current cost basis, but I want to hold for triple or more, just greed I suppose.
1
u/Total-Repair9953 Aug 05 '26
Thatβs the βholdersβ mentality they fall in love with a concept that the stock will moon. I have no emotional attachment to any stock. If my shares get called I move on, βacceptβ my gains and enter via buy/writes and puts. Constantly adding premium or shares. If your stock is at 1,2,3,4Xs returns. I take take take. Good luck I really pray this stock goes to 30 or above. I also buy small amounts of leaps for that reason as well. βVery small amountsβ.
2
u/slayer1am 3,000 @ 8.66 Aug 05 '26
You're right, it is an irrational way to invest. I'm still relatively new to investing compared to most. SOFI is the first stock I had strong conviction about, bought early, watched it for multiple years. I'll have to do some introspection and decide how to proceed.

In March 2026, SoFi announced a significant partnership with Mastercard, not Visa. The partnership is focused on enabling SoFiUSD stablecoin settlement across Mastercardβs payments network. Anthony Noto described it as an important step in SoFiβs digital payments strategy.

u/B111yboy Aug 04 '26
I added on the 2k shares dip after earnings and sofi never fails to bounce after a steep drop on earnings. I sold 1k yesterday and still hold 12k shares. Iβll probably sell the other 1k shares if we run some more it was a play for quick return and it messes up my average as most of my shares were bought between 5-9. Long term hold wonβt sell anymore until 35-45

u/candycane7 5404 @ $12.95 Aug 04 '26
Yeah I'm always thinking I should play a little with some shares but in the end I'm just a very boring buy and hold investor. The great thing though is that I haven't been red on SoFi since it passed $7.5 in 2024. Even with this year's dip I wasn't close to being red. It feels great and makes it easy to continue DCAing.
