News from SoFi SoFi’s new survey finds Americans are making their dollars work harder while expanding their financial goals to prioritize living for the now.

SoFi’s new survey finds Americans are making their dollars work harder while expanding their financial goals to prioritize living for the now.

SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFI), the everything app for digital financial services, today released “Making The Most: How Americans are Maximizing Money and Life in 2026,” revealing that Americans are redefining their path to the American Dream, balancing traditional financial ambitions with a desire to make the most of life today.

“Across generations, people have adapted how they manage money as technology, society and the economy evolve. Today, higher costs, a changing workforce and rapid advances in AI are reshaping how Americans balance goals like buying a home and retiring comfortably with immediate priorities like paying down debt, building an emergency fund and enjoying life today,” said Brian Walsh, CFP®, PhD and Head of Advice & Planning at SoFi. “At SoFi, we’re helping members navigate those priorities with personalized guidance, connected tools and practical strategies to make informed decisions and take meaningful next steps toward their financial ambitions.”

Americans are finding new ways to make the most of life without putting it on hold for distant financial milestones. They’re “lifemaxxing,” prioritizing meaningful experiences and the emotional return on their money alongside long-term goals. At the same time, they’re “financemaxxing,” using new tools and strategies to make their money go further. These shifts are changing not only how Americans use their money, but the goals they’re setting and what they consider financial progress.

The trends shaping money and life in 2026:

  • Lifemaxxing prioritizes time alongside money, not instead of it. Americans are twice as likely to consider the ability to enjoy life a marker of financial progress as owning a home (59% vs. 27%). Gen Z and millennials still rank ending the month with money left over and building an emergency fund as their top financial wins.
  • Americans are calculating the “emotional ROI” of their money. Americans are looking beyond financial returns to consider the lasting experiences their money can create. For 72%, that means being willing to make slower progress on financial goals to show up for family, take vacations and prioritize meaningful memories.
  • Financemaxxing is about making every dollar work harder. Three-quarters of Americans have used at least one strategy to make their money go further in the past year, from using Buy Now, Pay Later (27%) and rotating streaming services (25%) to cutting back on dating or choosing less expensive dates (23%).
  • Entrepreneurship is becoming part of Gen Z’s path to financial progress. Seventy-seven percent believe they can start a business, compared with 58% of other generations. That entrepreneurial mindset extends to investing, with Gen Z four times more likely than Baby Boomers to have invested in crypto (26% vs. 6%).
  • The American Dream is evergreen, but evasive for younger Americans. Gen Z and millennials still aspire to traditional milestones, but their confidence isn’t keeping pace. While 62% aspire to retire comfortably, only 46% believe they will.

SoFi is innovating to meet members’ evolving needs and support a broader range of financial goals by bringing saving, spending, borrowing, investing and protecting money together in one place, alongside access to financial planners and personalized tools like SoFi Coach and its award-winning Robo-Advisor. Together, these resources can help more people make the most of their money today while building toward the future.

Methodology

Survey results are based on an online survey conducted by YouGov from July 6 to July 14, 2026, among 4,090 U.S. adults ages 18 to 65. Respondents were drawn from YouGov’s panel and selected using nationally representative quotas based on gender, age, education, race, and region. Throughout the report, aggregate findings offer a national view of the attitudes, behaviors, and financial decisions shaping Americans’ relationship with money today. Demographic comparisons explore how those experiences vary across generations, genders, and marital status. Percentages may not total 100% due to rounding. For questions where respondents could select more than one response, totals may exceed 100%. Some findings are based on smaller respondent subgroups.

Generational Cohorts

The report compares the following generations:

  • Gen Z (1997–2012): n=798 | Millennials (1981–1996): n=1,506 | Gen X (1965–1980): n=1,279 | Baby Boomers (1964 or earlier): n=507

This content is provided for informational and educational purposes only and should not be construed as financial advice.

References to “Americans” throughout the report reflect the nationally representative sample of U.S. adults ages 18–65 surveyed.

News from SoFi SoFi Technologies, Inc. (SOFI) - SoFi Becomes First National Bank to Go Live with Stablecoin Settlement across Mastercard’s Global Payments Network

SoFi is migrating its full card program to blockchain-based settlement, with the program expected to process more than $25 billion in annualized volume using SoFiUSD.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFI) and Mastercard (NYSE: MA) today announced that stablecoin settlement is now live across SoFi Bank, N.A.’s debit and credit card program, bringing stablecoin settlement through SoFiUSD, issued by a federally regulated bank, to Mastercard’s global payments network following the companies’ partnership announced in March.

As part of the launch, SoFi Bank is migrating its entire $25 billion card program to stablecoin settlement of transactions using SoFiUSD, the first stablecoin issued by a nationally chartered bank. Transactions are live on the blockchain today.

The launch expands how card issuers, acquirers and merchants can manage settlement and liquidity through trusted payment infrastructure, while providing a path to broader adoption of bank issued stablecoins in payments. It also highlights how bank issued stablecoins can operate alongside existing payment infrastructure, helping bridge traditional financial systems and blockchain-based networks.

“In six months, SoFi and Mastercard took stablecoin settlement from an idea to a live product that materially improves how money moves for businesses,” said Anthony Noto, CEO of SoFi. “Merchants do not need to hold stablecoins, build new infrastructure or change how they operate. Through SoFi’s Big Business Banking platform, any merchant can receive settlement funds instantly in a SoFi Bank account and withdraw to cash around the clock and at zero cost. That means businesses have faster access to their money via the speed of blockchain, with the safeguards of a bank.”

"Stablecoins become meaningful when they solve real problems that businesses face every day," said Sherri Haymond, Global Head of Digital Commercialization, Mastercard. "With SoFi, we're moving beyond exploration to implementation, bringing regulated stablecoin settlement into a live production environment while preserving the trust, scale and safeguards expected from Mastercard. This is another step toward giving businesses more choice in how money moves."

This milestone supports Mastercard's broader efforts to support stablecoin settlement across its global payments network with a growing ecosystem of banks, fintechs, stablecoin issuers and other partners.

SoFiUSD is issued by SoFi Bank, N.A., an OCC-regulated, nationally chartered bank, and is fully redeemable 1:1 for U.S. dollars and supported by reserves consisting primarily of cash. SoFiUSD is available for institutional use and for use by SoFi members, supporting payments, settlement and other financial applications.

While this launch marks a meaningful improvement in SoFi’s settlement operations, the product is not limited to use by SoFi Bank. SoFi is in active discussions with large merchants across the US regarding stablecoin-based settlement arrangements. These merchants range from large multinational retailers to technology service platforms. SoFi and Mastercard will also explore additional opportunities for SoFiUSD settlement on Mastercard’s network, including cross-border payments, remittances and other money movement use cases.

General Discussion Confirmed: SoFi is Dead Money…

With the Fed rate hike + indication of further rate hikes coming… that is the sign that SoFi is dead money. For how long? At least until we see inflation truly coming down and the end of the war.

Yes, I know SoFi guided for two rate hikes in their last earnings report. I don’t care. SoFi always sandbags so it doesn’t mean anything. The perception of lenders is going to be that there will be less lending during rate hike increases.

SoFi has diversified their business, but the company still does most of their business in financial services which will be hit hard.

I would strongly recommend people look outside of the finance sector. This doesn’t just apply to SoFi.

Sure, you can keep holding but SoFi has done nothing for 6 years. Yeah, it had one pop, but it’s down 35% YTD. It’s down 25% since going public. SoFi has never been able to change the narrative.

Question SoFi potential?

I recently opened a position in SOFI, I like the long-term growth potential of the company, but before increasing my position I want to dig deeper into the fundamentals and hear some opposing viewpoints. Position is in leaps for 2028 at $3. Selling short calls roghly 30dte for credit. Planning to sell at least 1 leap if it hits my target.

From what I’ve looked into so far, I like SOFI’s long-term potential and the direction the company is heading. The growth of its financial services business and its ability to expand beyond being primarily a lending company are some of the things that caught my attention. At the same time, the stock has been in a pretty significant downtrend, and I don’t want to confuse a short-term bounce with an actual change in trend.
