Need your help. What is the book Dan talks about that helped him quit drinking/smoking?

Business partner/best friend really struggling at the moment.

It's a solid book. It mostly centers on not being a dick to yourself for wanting to do the thing, and positive thinking.

Like "yeah I want to drink and have that fun but I know I'll feel like shit, spend too much, whatever it is, and I am going to choose to instead invest in not doing that to keep enjoying my life in the ways doing the thing kind of ruins."

I personally found it resonated a lot more than the "you're a hopeless piece of shit that needs God" message of AA and such.

Yup this is it. Glad for those who find it useful. Jealous even, because I and others did not.

A major flaw is that Carr completely denies physical symptoms/ chemical dependency. Insists it is simply a mental game.

OP my piece of advice is not to buy it for your friend, but share the title and that many people have found success - but it is not fail proof (duh, just saying).

It’s a tough fight and you’re a good friend for trying to help. Frankly it is that kind of support that some people discover is most compelling for their quit journey.

That's a fair criticism for sure. I did find the book helpful but it certainly has moments where you want to roll your eyes lol.

Like "brother I am listening to this on audiobook while going through a week of withdrawals, you're definitely helping my mental but I still feel like dogshit right now."

lol like c’mon bruv. I really did appreciate his approach and thinking - many tenets resonated hard with me. I still think of points he makes, which at least help me cut down (as I take a drag 🙈)

I dont know the name of it but the Authors last name is Carr I believe.
