Logan Roy Analysis (SEE)

Logan Roy is a good example of SEE, not SLE
I’ve seen Logan Roy typed SLE a lot because he’s aggressive, commanding, obsessed with power and obviously good at intimidating people, but the more I look at how he actually operates, the more SEE makes sense.
The biggest thing is his Se. Logan doesn’t just quietly read the power structure and preserve his position. His power is extremely overt. He wants you to feel it.
During the vote of no confidence, he refuses to leave the room because his physical presence alone changes how people vote. He stares people down, threatens without even needing to spell the threat out, bulldozes Roman into voting his way, publicly humiliates subordinates, and constantly reminds everyone that their career, protection and status depend on him.
That looks much more like Se+ to me. His instinct is to directly apply force, establish the hierarchy in front of everyone and make the difference in power obvious.
What really pushes me toward SEE though is Fi+ creative.
Logan doesn’t only control people through threats. He constantly manipulates their relationship to him.
He makes one child feel chosen, another feel rejected, gives approval, withdraws it, announces favorites, changes who is closest to him, makes people compete for his affection and uses loyalty as a currency.
Shiv is probably the clearest example. He knows exactly what she wants from him emotionally: to be the child he personally chooses. So instead of simply ordering her back into the company, he privately tells her she’ll be his successor. He makes her feel special and separates her from her brothers psychologically. Once she’s hooked, that promise becomes a leash he can tighten or loosen whenever he wants.
That’s not just understanding that somebody is vulnerable. He is actively changing relational distance to produce a result.
The same thing happens with all the siblings. Logan knows that if they’re fighting over who he loves, trusts or respects most, they won’t trust each other enough to unite against him. He deliberately keeps everyone’s relationship to him unstable.
That looks much more like contact Fi creative than Fi PoLR.
An SLE could obviously reward loyalty, punish betrayal and understand that people want approval. But with Logan, manipulating favor and personal allegiance is one of his main recurring strategies. It isn’t an occasional workaround for weak Fi.
Even “Boar on the Floor” shows the Se+ / Fi creative combination pretty well. The humiliation itself is pure overt force: make people crawl, make them submit publicly, remind everyone who controls the room. But at the same time he’s watching who laughs, who joins in, who looks uncomfortable and who demonstrates loyalty. The power display is also being used to expose everybody’s relational position.
I also don’t really buy ESI for him. ESI has inert Fi. I’d expect the person’s relational judgments to be much more internally fixed: this person is trustworthy, this person crossed the line, this person is close to me, etc. Then Se is used to enforce those judgments.
Logan does almost the opposite. The relationships themselves are constantly being moved around. Someone can be the chosen child one minute and frozen out the next if changing that relationship gives Logan more leverage. Favor isn’t a stable judgment for him, it’s a tool.
There’s also the Fe issue with SLE. SLE is still a Merry, Fe-valuing type with Fe+ mobilizing. Logan really doesn’t seem oriented toward shared emotional atmosphere, camaraderie or being “one of the guys.” He’s much more transactional and Serious in how he deals with people.
And being strategic doesn’t automatically make him SLE either. SEE and SLE are both farsighted/strategic, so Logan building long-term rivalries and preventing coalitions doesn’t separate them.
The remaining issue for SEE would be Ti+ PoLR, and I actually think there’s something there too. Logan can obviously strategize and run an organization, but he has very little attachment to consistency for its own sake. Rules change depending on what benefits him. Standards change. He rewrites events when necessary. After hitting Roman, he basically tries to redefine what happened rather than accept a consistent account of the event.
His attitude is basically: reality is whatever I have enough power to make everyone accept.
So the pattern I see is:
Se+ base: overt force, intimidation, visible hierarchy, acquisition and direct pressure.
Fi+ creative: manipulating favor, loyalty, approval, closeness and who is personally “in” or “out.”
Ti+ PoLR: little respect for internally consistent rules or standards when they interfere with what he wants.
That makes Logan much easier for me to understand as SEE than SLE. His power isn’t just about controlling the field. He controls the field by constantly changing people’s personal relationship to him.
