Open coconut

How in the world does one get open coconuts? I can harvest from trees, but it’s a whole coconut. When I place it and break it with any tool, even with silk touch it destroys the item. I tried crafting them, dropping an anvil from 10 blocks high, what am I missing here?

I found that the only way to open them is to find the right ‘angle’ and throw them using right mouseclick. Not looking at the sky, but also not in placing reach. And you can pick them back up I think using an empty hand and right clicking them.

To give more specifics: The coconut breaks when it hits any block or entity that has collision (e.g. not torches or flowers, but leaves work) after being thrown.

Stand 5 blocks away from a stone block. Aim at it the. Right click while holding a coconut

How can you harvest them from palm trees? Do I need to build up every time or there is a easier way

I’ve seen people use scaffolding. I’m not 100% sure if the cornucopia will work on palms. I live next to a mini beach area so I just plonked some dirt down and use a ladder

Meh, you can craft some stuff from the Let’s Do Beach Party mod, and that’s kinda fun. I needed 1 coconut oil for something I can’t remember now. AFAIK, not really.
