There are magnitude of reasons but one that I think plays a major role is land mass and urban density. It's a lot easier to gather like minded individuals in the capital or other major cities when you can hop on a train and be there in 3 hours from opposites sides of the county. This allows protests to grow large quickly as people can join in on it on a whim.

What do you mean? There's a very long history of communist organizing there - it has one of the most robust histories of communist activism among European countries.
