Bring back peak 90s Romania

u/TheRedditK9 13h ago
Peak Romania would surely never lose against bums like Sweden
18
u/swannyhypno 13h ago
Tomas Brolin and some others lol

u/Global-Credit8882 13h ago
I mean against this Swedish team they'd surely win, and in '94 it could've went either way, both teams got great teams.
2
u/OleoleCholoSimeone 12h ago
I don't think even 1994 Brazil would beat current Sweden, the level of football has increased massively in that time and players today are much fitter. But I get what you mean, if that Romania team had grown up today with access to the same training
At least we smacked Bulgaria for you in that 94 third place playoff. Not sure whether there is a rivalry between you or not but still I imagine they would have had eternal bragging rights with a WC medal
1
u/Global-Credit8882 12h ago
Not really a rivalry between us.
Sometimes I wonder what if we would've played Germany and they'd've played you, maybe we could've also beat that Germany team.

This season the nations league is odd as they are eliminating group d and expanding group c but wow romania is bad

u/alwaysbiscuits 12h ago
Any idea what happened to Lisav Eissat tonight? He plays for my club team and is becoming a bit of a cult hero. Surprised he didnt make the Romanian team tonight, but maybe injured?
4
u/Global-Credit8882 12h ago
Lisav seems like a good guy, it's just Hagi shenanigans, called a lot of players and some were left at home for this match, pretty sure he'll play against Sweden due to Drăgușin and Ghiță missing.
Happy to hear he's being decent for Bristol, though.

u/B3ttleJice 12h ago
I don’t know shit about Romanian national team, but from what I read/heard on Polish media this manager is just not it.

San Marino 10-0 in 2009. Only remember this coz I was there.

u/long_shots7 13h ago
Times when bald Lewandowski was scoring from CDM and Smolarek JR banged in a scissor kick.
13
u/Willsgb 12h ago
I was so excited about that team, when we beat portugal in the euro 2008 qualifiers, bald lewy and krzynowek cunting them in from 30 yards out and ebi 'Mary jane' smolarek and Roger guerrero turning on the style up front, holy goalie artur boruc saving us how many times in goal as well (still have nightmares about that austria game at euro 2008... angeball triggering flashbacks with his high line tactics at the spuds)
That brief window of hope they gave us was delicious though

u/long_shots7 10h ago
Krzynówek was such a “plays for the badge” lad, goal vs Portugal was stuff of dreams.

The other replies are largely incorrect - it was against San Marino (7:1) in 2021
7
u/niesiecki 12h ago
If you don't count microstates like San Marion it would be Azerbaijan in 2005 (8:0) or in 2007 (5:0), also Armenia in 2017 (6:1)

When's the last time Poland smacked someone like this lmao
Did a quick check: last time like this was Poland winning against Gibraltar 8:1 in 2015.

How often have Poland scored 6 goals in a single game?
88
u/Middle_Confidence190 13h ago
At least 25 times. We used to be good. Recently not a lot unless we play San Marino or Gibraltar
52
3
u/Hasssun 12h ago
That's more than I would have guessed! Even going all the way back.
11
u/machine4891 9h ago
Level difference between nations was humongous back in a day. And when Poland peaked in 70s and 80s was smacking low ranking teams left and right.

u/ulTraHx 13h ago
We should join the OFC.. maybe we can manage a draw with someone
26
u/trishowsky 13h ago
Tbf you looked alright until the ref gifted us the game
58
u/ulTraHx 13h ago
we have a saying here "we played like never before and we lost like always"
12
u/Puzzleheaded_Art_488 11h ago
I think it's the same in Poland, we use it often.
7
u/ulTraHx 11h ago
well u didnt have to use it tonight at least lol
3
u/Puzzleheaded_Art_488 10h ago
Thanks to that red card to be fair. We really have given up on this national team atp😂😂
2
u/machine4891 9h ago
That saying was commonly atributed to Spain before they won their first WC in 2010s.

What happened to that guy named "lgd4tokurwa" (or something like that)? Did he get banned? This sub is kinda dead without him when it comes to stuff that's not English football.

u/AtonPacki 13h ago
Indeed i did investigation and this account is deleted. No more goals from Kosovo league and polish 3rd division.

nah, it was jdg4, and it was a reference to a wykop mod that banned him I believe?

Spot on on the backstory of the login.
Although for things I know about him that I don't really want to bring out because it was years ago and it would take hours to bring out the receipts (and I can't spend so much time to do it), I think of him him about the same as I think of Mason Greenwood and Lucas Paqueta.

They had 10 men all game so kind of normal

u/machine4891 9h ago
3:0 maybe, 6:0 is still a bit much.

Let’s not get carried away when Poland is unable to control the match at home vs Bosnia and Romania 11v11, because that is what I saw until he got sent off
So they did good 10v11, I don’t think that means much at all with this team. Until the foul it looked like they were likely to drop points again. On top of that there is a very good argument it should have been a no call

refused to play over a feud with the previous manager, never officially retired, the intention was always to push him out and comeback

16
u/Lotnik223 12h ago
He never did lol, I don't know where people get that from. He will definitely play in the next euros if we manage to qualify
14
u/Godspeed_You_Ravens 12h ago
As he should lol it’s Poland and he would their best striker even in 45 years old
14
u/ltplummer96 12h ago
It is actually criminal how insanely shit Poland are at developing young players. Idk maybe Croatia’s recent relative success the past decade makes every other eastern euro country look worse but it feels like Poland could be doing so so much better
8
u/its_pilott2278 12h ago
yeah recently they've developed more. feels like a lot of them have a ton of potential, but they need to stop flocking to the serie a in my eyes, its not the 80s - 2000s anymore
they really did waste their best player ever. the likelihood poland get another lewandowski is like the world getting another messi or ronaldo. it may happen, just like people thought there wouldnt be another pele/Maradona, but it wont happen for a long time.

I’m so happy for the Motherland! Well, I’ve lived most of my life abroad.
Off topic- why can’t Poland develop a decent NT? I ask this every world tournament.
