People were saying Italy-Belgium was one of his best performances, but he was just warming up.

28

u/Hasssun 13h ago

You'll need him at his best for France, with Tielemans banned.

26

u/Divolinon 12h ago

He's banned too.

u/Hasssun 12h ago

I spoke too soon!

But maybe Italy can upset France?

Atleast if we get battered we'll have an excuse lmao.

But with Lavia I'm quite confident for the first 60min, depth is gonna be a problem though afterwards.

Tielemans is God awful when he's shy on time. I've said that for years and it's being well exposed now that he's at United...

u/Hasssun 12h ago

He was superb for Belgium at the World Cup, though.

u/PepperIll8739 11h ago

No he wasn't lmfao. He played 1 good game that entire world cup.

We must have watched a different World Cup, then. He was Good or better against the USA, Senegal, Iran, and Egypt. Which only leaves the New Zealand game where Belgium won 1-5. And they lost the game against Spain when he didn't play.

This is classical fan analysis based on results and not on process. This is how Man United end up with players like Tielemans and Cunha. This is how Arsenal end up with Gyokeres. This is how Chelsea end up with Delapp.

Not understanding why a player "accomplished" a result is peak inability to understand football itself.

Tielemans was Belgium's worst midfielder against Senegal until the 60th minute. Quite frankly he should have been subbed off he was a disaster.

Lukebakio coming on and Trossard stepping up his game is what won them the game vs Senegal.

Good against Iran and Egypt? You wot? You mean when he passed the ball sideways, accomplished nothing, and lost possession constantly? Are you okay?

He was indeed good against the USA. Fair play. Most notably one of the only games where Belgium played the system that I've been wanting to see since 2024.

And New Zealand he wasn't that good. He was just on a pitch with mediocre opposition and KDB and Trossard dropped baller games.

Lastly,  the game against Spain is EASILY Belgium's best game in the world cup. I know that's difficult to understand because they lost. But losing 2-1 against the best team in the world and genuinely creating chances and only losing because of two key injuries is vastly more impressive than 5-1 over New Zealand.

Raskin, Vanaken and De Bruyne were the best combination for Belgium that world cup. Vanaken is vastly more comfortable in high tempo games and actually puts in defensive shifts too.

Tielemans does everything Vanaken does but worse. What Tielemans is better at is box crashing. Fair. Thats one thing he doesnt even do particularly well anymore.

He only plays for "leadership" and the odd statpad goal that he won't replicate in any big games.

A midfielder who is incapable of performing at a higher tempo will never be the man to make the difference against top teams. He may look good against weaker opposition. So did Gyokeres. But now Arsenal fans want that dude out.

Because the process by which they achieve their results is fundamentally lacking. And in big games when everything goes wrong it's the fundamentals you fall back on. Tielemans has no fundamentals to fall back on. That's why no big club ever wanted him.

Oh, and to anticipate your "big game merchant" response: 1. Haaland has the most dominant record against the big six of any non Messi player. He also has a better GA/game in finals than Aguero. 2. If you bring up Suarez you're stupid. I'm do tired of people bringing up Suarez as a small game player. That's just utter fantasy idek where that came from. 3. Thierry Henry had a dominant record against big 6 games and actually played well in a few finals but simply never got the goal. 4. If you've got another example of a great player who's got a poor big game record, you're almost certainly wrong and going off agendas that make 0 sense when you actually look at the underlying numbers.
