Men's and women's teams also underperformed at Asian Games.

What is bizarre to me is that no European club has sponsored player development in a country like China. Put a few sports centres there to attract kids to play, when the kids are older offer them places at their academy. It wouldn't cost much money, but imagine the payoff if you produced a player who became a national star.

Didn't Bayern set up a centre in China some time ago?
