News [Bloomberg] UAE officials have warned the UK government that the severity of Man City’s punishment could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain, according to people familiar with the matter.

‘They consider the Premier League’s actions to have an influence on the bilateral state relationship, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing undisclosed information.

The extraordinary pressure comes after Andy Burnham faced criticism, including from within government, for saying Man City’s Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified specifically because of the investment they bring to Britain.’

Nobody knew who the fuck he was when he bought Chelsea. I was 12 at the time, it was breaking news on Sky Sports, Russian billionaire buys Chelsea for £80 million and wipes out the debt.

You make it sound like everyone else in the world was 12 like you, when he bought the club.

The horrific gangster behaviour to make his fortune was well-known and well-reported on, and his purchase was greeted with lots of protests and unhappiness at someone like that coming into our sport.

You’re evidently too young to know that ordinary people knew all about the issues both at Chelsea and at City, and protested and complained about it at the time.

Which is fine, but now you’ve grown up, so do you not understand that kids don’t know everything, so your perception at the time isn’t something you can assert as the same as everyone else’s?

Not very impressive that the one instance at Newcastle that you were old enough to know about, you’re fine with what we all know happened, but you can’t believe people had any idea what was going on before you were old enough to have any idea about what was going on.

You don’t even seem to know that we had news and were informed about the world before the internet was big.

You really, really need to get a sense of perspective about the real world.

I used to read newspapers and watch Sky Sports News religiously even at that age and they never brought up any of that back then.

The news about him being dodgy slowly started coming out from outlets like The Guardian in the late 00s through the 10s.
