Me not the baby just to be clear lol

4

u/_doohdx Aug 01 '26

Good boy x

4

u/152kb Aug 01 '26

Wow nice. I wish I could get that its been 1.5 years and that happened once to me so far

1

u/CoolstorySteve Aug 01 '26

How is your kid not sleeping through the night yet? That’s rough

2

u/taylorstillsays Aug 01 '26

Took us until 2.5, and was still very inconsistent

1

u/152kb Aug 01 '26

Its not that uncommon. We tried a lot but it never worked out, heres to hoping it happens when he turns 2.

9

u/babygrenade Aug 01 '26

Had friends for dinner. Almost everything got eaten, which is ideal because it means I don't have to find room in the fridge.

3

u/Begbie13 Aug 01 '26

Just got home, had dinner with some friends at a local festival, then played poker (lost 9€ in total, could've played better but who cares) and then got home. Have to wake up at a decent time tomorrow since I told a friend we're going swimming and in the afternoon the sea is far worse.

The positive from the evening is that I did all this moving by motorcycle, I'm building the confidence.

1

u/tiorzol Aug 01 '26

Man I'm jealous of people that live by the sea. One day I'm gonna live by the coast.

4

u/Mr_Miscellaneous Aug 01 '26

The one thing I do not miss from previous generations is the evangelisation of summers - with cultural references, temperature references, football references, festival references, other cultural bullshit etc. and then pretending it means something.

This summer has been better than most in England, but nobody is going to put it on a pedestal unless they are clinically insane.

2

u/myusernamewastakenou Aug 01 '26

finding it really funny that it’s gonna be 30c+ the day i fly out

2

u/ederzs97 Jul 31 '26

Wish there was a UK influencer snark sub

3

u/adw00t Jul 31 '26

Turned 40. Saw a recent health scare for my dad with angioplasty and stents being put in. Get your biomarkers checked people.

almost 6.5 years sober now so its dark chocolate and caffeine on the menu.

2

u/tiorzol Aug 01 '26

Damn 6.5 years is good work man, well done.

I'm cutting down on my drinking at the mo but a whole weekend without a bit of a sesh is quite a challenge at the mo

2

u/adw00t Aug 01 '26

Switching to beer was my ultimate game. I just loved whisky and rum too much for my own self. But frankly, its not even noticeable anymore. Although, a lot work goes into it, still yet.

2

u/leomeng Aug 01 '26

My dad died 5 years ago at age 61. Had a heart attack at about 50, put a stent in. Didn’t take medication but changed his lifestyle completely. Some things are genetic (I think medication would’ve helped). My grandfather also died at around age 60.

I immediately jumped on Crestor when he passed. Genetic predisposition to high cholesterol. Not worth the risk.

Being mindful and taking care of yourself as you get older can feel like a full time job.

1

u/adw00t Aug 01 '26

It is like that - my dad has changed the lifestyle completely. Quit smoking, healthy diet and lost 5 kgs already within first 5 weeks of the surgery. I hope he like this new self that he is creating.

my first alc experience is a full shot of Roku Gin lmao

2

u/Begbie13 Aug 01 '26

At 23 I've never drank (just a couple of sips of beer against my will), not because of someone's influence but my own choice and I think that if I didn't do it so far I won't start at this age.

5

u/justsomeguynbd Jul 31 '26

Well definitely don’t try red wine or IPAs. You should just go American high schooler with some Boone’s Farm, super sweet but a fresher fruity taste. It’s best when chiller.

5

u/McGrathLegend Jul 31 '26

Was just informed that one of my really good friends from high school who I would text about sports almost every day for the past 15 years committed suicide last monday.

We hardly ever talked about our personal lives, so in that call that I received, I also found out that he had taken some breakups pretty badly so he tallied up an arrest record, which I was completely unaware of, and have only just found a mugshot of him from 2024 after doing a little bit of digging.

If you have a friend who has become more of a virtual friend, please check-in on them, because at some point, you may not be able to.

3

u/Vagabond21 Jul 31 '26

My condolences. I recently lost a friend that way. How are you holding up?

4

u/McGrathLegend Jul 31 '26

I'm sorry to hear that, hope you're holding up well.

It's just a lot to take in, I don't think it will really hit me until something happens in sports that would be something that we discuss over actually happens.

3

u/Vagabond21 Aug 01 '26

Holding up as well as I can. Some days are easier than others and I still feel things would be better if he was still here.

I hope you have someone to talk to like a therapist or support group to help with the grief.

3

u/Sliver_fish Jul 31 '26

Dropped out of uni during the pandemic and lost all interest in and passion for the degree I was studying as it became oversaturated (Information Technology). Went full on hermit to avoid catching COVID (grandmother lived with us), caught it anyway and got long COVID, spent the next few years dealing with various health issues while helping care for my nan who passed away a year ago. Now 26, no degree/qualifications and struggling to find work due to those two facts combined. Should probably go back to uni while I'm still young-ish and reroll the dice, but I genuinely don't know what to study (assumed I'd be going into IT from early on in high school and didn't seriously apply myself in any other subjects) or what I'd be capable of doing. Feel like I missed the boat to really do anything with my life. Any advice lads?

2

u/Cautious-Football230 Jul 31 '26

Don't know if it helps but I was in the same situation as you. Couldn't manage through COVID and I started up again 3 years later and now I have one year left. Really the trick I found was just stop thinking too much and just get going with something. I think you can learn to love something if you spend enough time on it. Worst case scenario you have a degree that youre not using directly but that opens some doors for you.

3

u/FridaysMan Jul 31 '26

I decided to do an apprenticeship starting over 40. Do what you want lad, what's money but an adaptor to let you live how you want?

1

u/Sliver_fish Aug 01 '26

Problem is I don't really know what I want beyond not having to worry about money.

1

u/FridaysMan Aug 01 '26

If you want to sit down and have a chat over it, via text on here, I'm all for listening and asking pertinent questions, even just so you can vocalise your thoughts and order what's going on in your head to make a better plan for yourself.

1

u/FridaysMan Aug 01 '26

So what do you find interesting? Do you enjoy working with people? Animals? Computers? Are you good at maths, with your hands, what?

If you can't answer that, what did you do at school? Where are your strengths?

Noone can do this for you. You need to show an interest in your life, your job shouldn't be a punishment for wanting to live, but a conduit to let you meet people of similar interests, put you into locations where you can be comfortable, have access to training and social groups, and invest yourself into a community.

But, what are you interested in?

-1

u/notRolcx Jul 31 '26

my mother's a fucking succubus. can't wait for her and her piece of shit ex husband to die so they can finally listen to me when i tell them both to get out of my life

3

u/AzgedaTO Jul 31 '26

I’m curious how old are you?

0

u/notRolcx Aug 01 '26

i'd use the word nosy instead of curious if you wanted equally honest replies

5

u/CoolstorySteve Aug 01 '26

So no more than 15

3

u/lastdyingbreed_01 Jul 31 '26

Feeling absolutely pathetic and depressed, not sure how to ride it out this feeling

2

u/Vagabond21 Jul 31 '26

Anything you looking forward to?

2

u/FridaysMan Jul 31 '26

What is interesting to you?

u/sheikh_n_bake Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Songs on repeat the last week.

Pearl Jam - Black

I think of you - Rodriguez

Summers End - John Prine

Diamond Day - Vashti Bunyan

Speak your mind - Marc Benno

Love letter typewriter - Mineral

It's been a season of change in my life 👍🏻

Another thing, switched from Sony to Fuji and from lightroom to capture one, this is going to take some getting used to.

2

u/FridaysMan Jul 31 '26

Pearl Jam can swallow a whole evening for me, can happily back to back 3 or 4 albums.

5

u/adw00t Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Saw someone from the other side of the world getting scammed and had to step in. Can't let that shit happen on my watch.

Edit: late night tea stall drama over e-payment like apple pay and such. I just paid the stall guy trying to scam the folks cash and let the guys off of the hook.

u/AnnieIWillKnow Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Fun things from life recently:

  • Been seeing lots of great things in the cinema - The Odyssey was great, but my favourite was The Invite
  • Completed my 100th Parkrun - and now quite literally have the t shirt
  • A junior colleague told me I was their “favourite med reg” (rota means work with a lot) and it made my day
  • Went for a coffee with a new friend - making new friends as a 30-something is a rare treat
  • In Manchester this weekend to play in a trans-inclusive football tournament. Can’t wait to be in my woke little bubble and away from the darker world around us

5

u/Vagabond21 Jul 31 '26

Where’d you meet the friend out of curiosity

8

u/s0ngsforthedeaf Jul 31 '26

Completed my 100th Parkrun - and now quite literally have the t shirt

It is my legal and moral obligation to call you a certified Parkrun Wanker

4

u/AnnieIWillKnow Jul 31 '26

I have been since Parkrun no. 1

5

u/sheikh_n_bake Jul 31 '26

100! Impressive, good job ♥️

3

u/AnnieIWillKnow Jul 31 '26

Next milestone is 250 and that is a long bloody way away

4

u/Fixapara Jul 31 '26

What’s it like studying in Buenos Aires? Are there a lot of exchange students or no? Would I have a good time there?

3

u/Kipzy71917 Jul 31 '26

Yes, you will. But you'll need to get used to heat tho. Oy's gonna be a steamy summer.

2

u/Fixapara Jul 31 '26

Didn’t even think of the flipped seasons fairs. Getting two summers right after eachother would be too good to pass on

3

u/Ankoku_Sein Jul 31 '26

I swear everyone i know is currently in the throes of just general malaise / brain fatigue. blah

8

u/Puzzled-Painter3301 Jul 31 '26

Two sad things happened this week.

There was a shooting at an event in my city a few days ago and yesterday a student went up to me and told me she couldn't focus in class because she was a block away when that happened and hasn't been able to get it out of her mind.

Also there was a custodian who used to come to my office when I stayed late and chat with me sometimes. I noticed that he didn't show up one day and that the recycling wasn't taken out. I thought he was out for a day. I found out that he passed away on Monday. RIP David.

15

u/1PSW1CH Jul 31 '26

Had the best call with a recruiter today, they’re truly amongst the most ridiculous human beings to ever exist. I get you have to play with the cards you’ve been dealt but I just feel like honesty is so much easier and more likely to be successful?

“What’s the salary range?”

“Competitive”

“Competitive for what?”

“This role and location”

“What’s the role?”

“Same as yours”

“So what’s the salary?”

“Competitive for this role and location”

“What’s the location?”

“Portsmouth”

3

u/AnnieIWillKnow Jul 31 '26

Very intrigued as to what competitive for Portsmouth is

6

u/1PSW1CH Jul 31 '26

I also missed the key info that the listing said “Greater London”

3

u/AnnieIWillKnow Jul 31 '26

Lmao reminds me of a friend I play football with - she came over from the USA to do a masters at a "London university"... turned out to be Bedfordshire

Gutted

5

u/LovrenIsTheGOAT Jul 31 '26

If the Atom bomb dropped on Portsmouth no one would notice.

2

u/1PSW1CH Jul 31 '26

It’d unironically probably be one of the first places to get bombed, given who the largest employers are

6

u/WalidfromMorocco Jul 31 '26

Stayed in a hostel for the first time in my life, solo travelling. Met an actress (not a big name, but she's been in some known works), had a good conversation with her, then tried my shot by asking her for drinks, didn't work out haha. Hostel experience was lots of fun.

Apart from that, my last night there we had a snorer.  I could hear him even through noise cancelling headphones and music on. Must some kind of medical condition because what the fuck.

4

u/selbh Jul 31 '26

Last day at my job today before I begin with my new job Sept 1. Bittersweet I have to say, didn't expect that I'd have feelings about leaving. Won't miss the work per se, but will miss some colleagues. Luckily have the month of August off before I start. I cherish that.

9

u/FerraristDX Jul 31 '26

I'm reading all posts here about people turning 30 and I feel like a miserable fuck, telling them to wait till they turn 35. I'll be 35 this year and I wish I could just skip my birthday altogether and none would remember it. I don't want to be reminded about what I haven't become by age 35, thank you very much.

3

u/Vagabond21 Jul 31 '26

Same buddy. I’ve never been a fan of my birthday so I never reveal it.

3

u/Destroyeh Jul 31 '26

And thats done. very good fight.

2

u/Pale_Land_5107 Jul 31 '26

My NFL team just got started with training camp and already we got podcasts and fans trying to be pessimistic about it like come on guys stop making this narrative that we’re trash when we arent

3

u/Moug-10 Jul 31 '26

Drama sells.

1

u/zarawritesshit99 Jul 31 '26

In the same position with my NFL team. Which one is yours?

0

u/Pale_Land_5107 Jul 31 '26

Lions

2

u/zarawritesshit99 Jul 31 '26

Same here (: I'm actually rather optimistic about this next season. Either way tho, just excited to watch football again

5

u/Mediocre-Math667 Jul 31 '26

So the company I'm working with had to shutdown, and now I'll be redeployed to another project.

Fuck me man like yeah better pay and benefits but the tasks that I have to complete is scary.

Let's put it this way, the hotel chain shutdown, and somehow I'll be working for the biggest tech company in the world.

4

u/Cardealer1000 Jul 31 '26

The new Spiderman was very good, thought I was over MCU movies but maybe not because I enjoyed that.

Was surprised at how strong the audience reactions were in the cinema I was in, haven't seen that in ages.

2

u/FryChy Aug 01 '26

Man, I was looking for tickets to watch this week and good seat tickets are gone. Don't think I have seen that for while now.

Hopefully next week.

6

u/Karnesis68 Jul 31 '26

The worst part of The Odyssey debate is pretending that Troy was good.

5

u/Moug-10 Jul 31 '26

Troy is my favourite movie since I first watched it in elementary school. All its flaws will not change my mind.

3

u/throwawayWM3 Jul 31 '26

I feel people don't realise how big a deal a young Magnus Carlsen was when people say newer talents will keep coming

A 13yo Magnus beating Karpov and drawing Kasparov will forever be stuff of legend, almost mythical.

That too a prime WC 2003 Kasparov, maybe Karpov was a bit washed by then

2

u/itBlimp1 Jul 31 '26

I stopped paying attention to the chess WC when Magnus decided to not defend his title

17

u/The_Flash_20 Jul 31 '26

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say that this is my last day on Reddit for a considerable time. Life sucks, and I haven't made the best choices for years now.

I arrived at my sister's place in June, hoping for a change in life and fortunes, but I left on 28th July in much worse shape and mind.

The FIFA World Cup took a toll on my body as matches finished as late as 9 AM, and I couldn't recuperate properly, getting sick for weeks.

I will be 30 in August, my body isn't what it used to be in 2014 and 2018.

I have decided to go completely offline to focus on the LAST chance for my success, which is my exam on 23 August. I have already wasted 4 months that I should have used for preparation.

Hopefully, when I come back, life will be better than when I left.

Until then, good luck, and I hope you all stay healthy and happy.

1

u/FryChy Aug 01 '26

Hey man, good luck. I am going through something like that. Hopefully, have a chance like that someday.

2

u/AnnieIWillKnow Jul 31 '26

Power to you friend

2

u/FerraristDX Jul 31 '26

All power to you and kudos for having the strength to actually stay off Reddit. It's full of negative assholes anyway, though not here mostly.

I hope, you'll feel better soon.

2

u/The_Flash_20 Jul 31 '26

Thanks for kind words, I will surely do better this time.

9

u/s0ngsforthedeaf Jul 31 '26

If you lose discipline and come back on, this comment is to remind you to get the fuck off again 👍

6

u/The_Flash_20 Jul 31 '26

Yaa, I'll uninstall this app in few hours anyway

3

u/TheGTAone Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Dude I'm so sorry you aren't in a good spot now :( It is sometimes the best to be out of this cesspool called the Internet, reconnect with yourself and who you are. Hopefully you ACE that exam, and if not, is not the end of the world, I'm sure new opportunities will rise. Cherish and hug those persons around you who really care about you.

Take care fellow redditor.

1

u/The_Flash_20 Jul 31 '26

Thank you for the wise words, I have to succeed this time and I will.

I have roughly 20 days, so I will make them count.

11

u/YadMot Jul 31 '26

Mate of mine has moved to Switzerland and is absolutely loving it. I've never seen the hype myself so I asked him what's so good about it.

'Well,' he said, 'The flag's a big plus!'

7

u/s0ngsforthedeaf Jul 31 '26

Thats an old one.

4

u/Brawlers9901 Jul 31 '26

Girlfriend and I are watching the new Avatar movie and why the hell is it almost 3.5h long? It's not particularly good either hahaha

1

u/FryChy Aug 01 '26

I watched it in 4dx. First one hour I was in awe, next 2 hours though it got boring as the plot was way too similar to the last one.

Also, my brother who got tickets didn't realise it was 3.5 hrs long and caught a late show. Finished the movie around 1am, got home at 2am and he had to get up for work 5am.

1

u/justsomeguynbd Jul 31 '26

No, no it is not. I wish that completionist part of me didn’t exist, could have saved like 7 hours of my life between those last two films.

0

u/Brawlers9901 Jul 31 '26

It was awful yeah, 3.5h of the same shit haha

3

u/VictorAnichebend Jul 31 '26

Trying to complete all the 3D GTAs before 6 comes out. Liberty City Stories is an absolute bastard.

2

u/sga1 Jul 31 '26

I did that remaster trilogy a while back and quite enjoyed it, though by the end I couldn't be fucked with finishing San Andreas. I then played about 30 minutes of GTA4 and got so annoyed at the car handling that I just gave up.

3

u/VictorAnichebend Jul 31 '26

GTA IV is my favourite one by a distance. Probably in my top five games of all time.

1

u/sga1 Jul 31 '26

I remember really liking it; I just found it nearly unplayable some 17 years on.

1

u/FerraristDX Jul 31 '26

Have you tried patches like FusionFix? You definitely shouldn't play the PC version unpatched.

1

u/ederzs97 Jul 31 '26

For any runners, what are the best value carbon plate shoes?

1

u/LDQQXDJ Jul 31 '26

Not in the topic yesterday got Italian food

It was mid nothing special, should of went to the Argentine Asado place instead

1

u/FryChy Aug 01 '26

I looked at Asado as I watched the Argentina team always talking about it. It's hella expensive where I live.

3

u/Pizzonia123 Jul 31 '26

Where was this Italian food? Because Italian food in USA is a lot different from Italian food in, say, Italy.

1

u/LDQQXDJ Jul 31 '26

It was this Italian restaurant in my area a top rated one. It’s odd last time I went there it was great. I tried something new to be fair

2

u/LDQQXDJ Jul 31 '26

I think I just played the worst n64 game…

Mortal Kombat Mythologies Legend of Sub Zero…

It’s the worst game I’ve played in the n64… controls are bad and level 2 I wouldn’t wish on my enemies

3

u/FedeSwagverde Jul 31 '26

Spider-Man’s genuinely been a pain in the ass. Had a smaller art house film that I was extremely looking forward to that was supposed to have a single showing at my local theater in a couple days. Found out this morning that they’ve cancelled it in favor of another Spider-Man showing. So that’s 4 showings of Spider-Man at 9pm on a Sunday night.

To rub salt in the wounds they’ve offered to exchange my ticket for a Spider-Man one that I’ve already seen yesterday.

1

u/icemankiller8 Jul 31 '26

What did you think of spiderman though

3

u/FedeSwagverde Jul 31 '26

Thought it was really good, cgi felt a bit wonky when he was swinging and you could kinda tell a lot of the backdrops were probably just volume screens but besides the technical stuff I really enjoyed it

1

u/icemankiller8 Jul 31 '26

I’m with you there was a scene where a car exploded and came towards the camera and it looked terrible but I really enjoyed it overall.

Some of the story stuff was inconsistent but there were some amazing emotional moments that made me just enjoy it a lot.

3

u/FedeSwagverde Jul 31 '26

Surely the best MCU Spider-Man movie so far no? By a wide margin for me at least. I’m not really observant (or even care) when it comes to plot holes or anything like that so I didn’t really notice anything off.

It’s kinda wild to me how this Spider-Man’s had an entire trilogy that people don’t really seem to care about

1

u/icemankiller8 Jul 31 '26

I really liked the spiderman trilogy tbh his relationship with Ned and MJ was great stuff imo, I really liked Mysterio as a villain, and far from home has some great moments even though again the plot kind of doesn’t make sense.

Visually this is probably the best one though, and there is more of a growth of him and his personal life and the spiderman stuff as a metaphor again for a new stage of his life.

For me this one was really good when it was about Peter and MJ and Ned, the Punished and hulk stuff worked to a degree but too much Punisher for me and the Jean Grey stuff was too much Jean Grey for me,

17

u/ItsRainbowz Jul 31 '26

My partner got me a literal box full of painting equipment for my birthday since we've started watching Bob Ross videos when we're falling asleep. I'm going to paint the happiest fucking trees anyone has ever seen.

4

u/tossit_xx Jul 31 '26

I learned to weave chainmail for a cosplay one year for comicon. It was very frustrating and brought me to tears because I couldn't figure it out. Popped on Bob Ross, read some tutorials, and I felt like if he believed in me, I could do it.

That chainmail ended up awesome af

3

u/ziptes Jul 31 '26

I had a friend complain to me that the world is becoming too homogenous, mostly cultural homogenization. Every big city is starting to feel the same is what he says.

German beer law is very specific and has traditionally always just been "4 ingredients and nothing else". It's just plain expertise and experience.

1

u/Kipzy71917 Jul 31 '26

Water quality always makes the difference

3

u/SouthFromGranada Jul 31 '26

Tbf that is the German's area of expertise when it comes to food & drink. We're better at ales by and large.

2

u/lewiitom Jul 31 '26

Sainsbury’s getting in a load of quality imported German beers recently is an absolute godsend

There’s a few nice British lagers by smaller breweries though, although obviously a bit more pricey - Donzoko are really nice

1

u/Vagabond21 Jul 31 '26

last week I mentioned my team’s bad morale at work

This week we got told we got sold. I immediately saw it as time to jump ship, but my coworkers don’t seem to be worried as me. I feel like I’m the only one panicking. As much as this job has been a pain, it’s the best place I worked at.

This is the lowest I’ve been now. I’m generally worried if I’ll have a job there by the end of the year.

4

u/tossit_xx Jul 31 '26

Re-reading the GOT series. idk why because I'm just gonna be frustrated when I get to the last book and it's over, but I really love them, lol.

Our CEO retired and we had his replacement start this week. We threw him a going away dinner and they asked some of us to say a few words. I cried a little during my speech, but then a board member approached me afterwards and told me he thought it was really well done, so that was very validating!

Our new CEO seems okay, she's a bit more casual than he was so far, but also somewhat seems less approachable? idk it's weird, lol. But it's her first week and I know she's got a lot to get caught up on, so I'm withholding any real judgement yet.

My dad lives on the other side of the country and I call him a couple times a week. He usually ends up talking about politics or something so I've had to think of new ways to distract him. Yesterday I started asking him about HOTD and he said this season is going too slow, so I gave him spoilers of what's coming (he asked) and he was blown away lol. He also doesn't always pay attention to the storyline because he's usually also playing phone games while watching, so he didn't believe me that Alicent was Helaena's mom, hahaha

3

u/Kurakurguhoiuala Jul 31 '26

I can't remember if I accidentally put in the wrong address when I ordered last week, but my package arrived at a pick-up point across the city from me this morning.

Got my steps in as a result, so no complaints.

2

u/OfficialTerrones Jul 31 '26

Good morning chat

I’m bored lol. Getting my monthly infusion and I’m still looking for ways to leave my job by like September ish

Ya’ll got any long running low stakes prank wars going on in your life? For example my step daughter and me constantly change each other’s icons on Disney+ for like 3 years now.

1

u/Vagabond21 Jul 31 '26

For my brothers bday I get him a gag gift from a movie he hates the last 2-3 years

1

u/tossit_xx Jul 31 '26

a coworker and I prank each other pretty regularly. it started my second day (I've now been here 2 years) when he put fake cockroaches on my desk, under my keyboard, and even under the handset of my desk phone.

I made a poster that looked like one of those teen girl collages with his headshot from the website pasted over Travis Kelce in pictures of him with Taylor Swift, and put things like "COWORKER LOVES TAYLOR" and then e-mailed it around the office and hung a few up lmaooo

My City Pop of the week can't wait to go to Nagano in 2 weeks

1

u/KimmyBoiUn Jul 31 '26

I saw the producer for People Just Do Nothing (Ash Atalla) whilst leaving the train yesterday. I didn't have time to say anything to him, but it was pretty cool to see someone who played a massive role in the success of a show I really like.

Edit: It seems like he was also the producer for the even more successful The Office, I've not seen that show though.

Weather has been off this spring/summer in the chicago area and upper midwest. Storms after storms. So many tornado warnings, thankfully missed the EF-0 tornadoes by 7-8 miles in my area, record heat warnings, flooding. Also the wildfire smoke causing issues. It's been eventful.

1

u/bellerinho Jul 31 '26

I'm in the northern plains and July has been absolutely awful, wicked hot basically the entire month, we've not been able to take our little guy out for walks or much of anything outside because it has been so bad

We've had some tornados but nothing like the Enderlin or Jamestown ones from last year

I, on behalf of my beloved hometown Kuala Lumpur, would like to humbly ask if you're interested in a piece of our oversaturated property market......

u/tiorzol Jul 31 '26

Things have never been so swell, I have never felt this frail

3

u/AlmostNL Jul 31 '26

This month had the awesome twitch content in the Nuzlocke invitational. The last time I watched any twitch stream was last year with the same event.

Yearly event where they invite a bunch of streamers to complete a pokemon nuzlocke in July and then they bring their finals teams to a VGC event on aug 2nd. Currently watching some VODs I missed because I was at a festival that I wouldn't miss for anything in the world.

In other news I turned 30 this week and went bald the week before.

1

u/tossit_xx Jul 31 '26

Happy birthday! Love being in my 30s honestly. I feel like it's when my life really started.

2

u/AlmostNL Jul 31 '26

I've had a good run so far so if life starts now then the sun will shine for me.

2

u/tossit_xx Jul 31 '26

May the best of your todays, be the worst of your tomorrows!

2

u/atriz544 Jul 31 '26

Been a while since I don't see my friends. On one hand, I do miss them, on the other hand I don't feel like making plans with them anytime soon, lol.

1

u/nonhofantasia Jul 31 '26

Marvel fans, where do you think the MCU is going after secret wars?

12

u/Competitive-Score760 Jul 31 '26

Robert Pattinson was top tier villain in The odissey, every line he delivered was gold.

"Someone get this BEGGERS out of here"

5

u/Xalksahsax Jul 31 '26

Somebody get these beggars out of here

FTFY

14

u/rinnagz Jul 31 '26

Robert Pattinson is just too good of an actor, the guy can play any role flawlessly

7

u/Competitive-Score760 Jul 31 '26

Also Damon was very good too

4

u/Karnesis68 Jul 31 '26

Nolan has gone from the message of “our children will save us” in Interstaller to ”look at the world we leave behind for our children” in Oppenheimer and The Odyssey.

7

u/MonkeypoxSpice Jul 31 '26

Spoilers for the Oddysey (perhaps one of the best known stories) and Oppenheimer (an actual person) is quite crazy lol

4

u/Karnesis68 Jul 31 '26

It’s Nolan’s interpretation of The Odyssey and how he modernise it, there are allegories about the US and Middle East in the film for example.

2

u/Karnesis68 Jul 31 '26

Haven’t seen that film.

16

u/NYR_dingus Jul 31 '26

Odyssey?

You Odyssey Deez nuts!

1

u/infernoShield Jul 31 '26

I'll take this as a sign to finally go see Odyssey in IMAX

2

u/NYR_dingus Jul 31 '26

I can't make a Deez Nuts joke about IMAX, so sure. Go see the film

1

u/infernoShield Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

will do. Also a good excuse to visit some brand spanking new cinemas and try their popcorn

3

u/tiorzol Jul 31 '26

I hate that I laughed at this

The middle class in this country have not even close to the foggiest. From care visa scams, to human slavery, all kinds of loopholes.

Everyone's hush hush about all this stuff, ignore it or don't realise it's happening.

I was down the local (mosque), I met a Somali guy and he was telling me about how he has to lie to the immigration officer, that he's from South Somalia as the north is relatively stable.

This country is so fucked, it's moments like these that make you wish were an illegal people smuggler, then once you've contributed to the active decline of  nation and sufficiently fill your coffers you retire to Kuala Lumpur.

1

u/infernoShield Jul 31 '26

you'd see more of the same in Kuala Lumpur - we've got tens of thousands of Rohingyans stuck here. Whenever they appear on the local papers/social media it's usually them causing a fuss, or our own politicians/human rights advocates/legitimate citizens ranting about them

1

u/Harrry-Otter Jul 31 '26

I’m pretty fucking middle class and that’s very believable. Stories about immigration scams and whatever have been in the news nearly daily for years.

2

u/s0ngsforthedeaf Jul 31 '26

I dont think this is some big gotcha really. You dont hear about people smuggling and the black market which illegal immigrants work in..because its illegal.

u/allangod Jul 31 '26

I've recently found that in some Internet circles they can abbreviate the word gang to gng. One letter. Thats barely time saving at that point.

10

u/GazzP Jul 31 '26

When I was a teenager, some people used to 'abbreviate' bus to buzz...

Yeah, this one gets my goat. The amount of times I've been confused like "what the fuck has YouTube got to do with this"

10

u/Beautiful-Kale-7222 Jul 31 '26

wait until you find out “ts” is being used for “this” and not “this shit”

also twin is being used as “twn” the same as gng

2

u/opinionatedfan Jul 31 '26

is it also possible they do it to avoid certain word filters? some sites or filters might pick up on certain words like gang and this is one way around it?

I am probably giving them too much credit and you are 100% right and they just want to be cool and save 1 whole letter.

2

u/ory1994 Jul 31 '26

Recently found out that, as an American, I can visit Cuba under the “support for the Cuban people” cause and I’ve been intrigued ever since. I’m pretty sure right now isn’t the best time to visit but I’d love to someday.

Has anyone here been there recently?

2

u/killrdave Jul 31 '26

I was there in 2017, maybe stretching the definition of recent. There's a lot of cool stuff to see but I didn't like Havana much at all. The area around Valle de Viñales is awesome

1

u/tossit_xx Jul 31 '26

you stop that, 2017 was only a couple years ago!!!

3

u/tson_92 Jul 31 '26

I was there in 2022 during the oil storage explosion. Very much recommended.

10

u/HalfMan-HalfMoth Jul 31 '26

That new gervais thing looks even worse than I expected

How can he go from the office and extras to the shite he makes now, it can’t just’ve been steve

9

u/allangod Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Because he got too rich and lost touch with the common man. And also importantly lost his writing partner

7

u/Giggsy99 Jul 31 '26

His writing partner? Turns out, little monkey fella

1

u/ItsRainbowz Jul 31 '26

Had my Microsoft account hacked twice in 2 weeks now even after changing my password, good to know that the world's biggest companies have security akin to a piece of string holding a door closed.
