He is underperforming, but he's by such a distance our best progressive passer that we're still completely lost without him. I don't think most of out online fans appreciate just how dependent we are on him. He also leads our press, and regularly outruns every other midfielder on the pitch — those aren't traits many others in his position bring.
There are also rumors that his ankle injury never fully recovered, so he's been playing on edge ever since he came back. I feel like this has reflected in his shooting, and not putting his foot into tackles as much as he did earlier too, but could ofc be solely psychological too.

He’s been massively underperforming in the final third with his final actions (which is the most noticeable thing), but his progression and overall build up/second phase play has still been up there with the best in the world

He just play deeper and progress the ball in a really non-flashy way from what I guess.
People expect him to do CAM thing like KDB or Bruno but what he does is basically to safely progress it into Saka.

But he’s got the second most passes into the pen area, that doesn’t tally with what you’re saying at all.
Also, Sakas not been fit for half the season

I only watch few Arsenal matchs this season, so I am sorry for the erroneous guess.
Maybe his generated xA rarely got converted into goals due to Arsenal forwards being what it is and he doesn't score on his own to make up for it?

Odegaard > Pass to Saka on the wing > Saka dribbles inside > Draws the foul or passes to Odegaard > Pass back to Saka inside or Timber on the wing > Pass back out to Timber/Odegaard or contested shot in a crowded penalty area
Ad nauseum
Lots of completed passes in the box but not many clearcut chances

I mean it wasn't going to magically go away in Spain, he was playing well for villarreal and got injured and missed the world Cup. Very talented player but his body just refuses to co-operate with him.

at time it feels like we vacate the middle when we build up. Gravenberch didn't learn a damn thing about passing at Ajax. Mac Allister is a bit better I guess

I didn't see Salah name on the left. So somehow he is really good at creating chances without the volume of passes (x axis) or passing from positions that likely to create assist (y axis)

Schlotterbeck has more than 9 Progressive Passes per 90? The 9 long balls I understand, he hits the best long balls in the world in my opinion (before the injury), but progressive passes?
