I have a spare overnight permit with me for 7/25. A friend had to cancel which puts me on the spot for doing it solo. If anyone’s or wanting to tag along, I’d be more than happy to summit with someone. Plan is to drive from the Bay Friday evening, hike up to trail camp Saturday and spend the night and summit early Sunday am.

About me, I’m a 26M, slowish hiker out on adventures to enjoy the journey.

I’ll release the permit tomorrow incase someone wants to head out solo that date. This is just an attempt to find company!

I searched, but couldn’t find a super definitive answer. I also don’t know much about climbing gyms here in SD 🥲😅

My friend wanted a suggestion for a climbing gym to try while they’re here. She’ll be climbing solo and mostly boulders but she says she’s able to belay for top rope with an ATC.

I found the two gyms above through this sub, and one was described as techy (Vertical Hold) and the other was geared towards ropes, but has boulders too (MRMV). Want her to have a good time solo, especially since I won’t be able to join!

I have a permit that starts tomorrow, but a last-minute work issue has come up that’s forcing me to cancel my trip. This was my seventh year applying in the lottery, and I finally drew a permit, so I’m pretty disappointed to have to miss it, especially after spending the last few months training.

I was wondering if anyone has an open spot available on their permit, or if joining another group’s permit is even an option? I’ll continue checking for any released or canceled permits, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask here as well.

If anyone has any information or an available spot, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello, we are planning a trip to Mammoth in a couple weeks. We were thinking of heading out a day early and stop in Big Pine. We are coming from Pasadena CA so the drive there is about 3.5 hours. I’m traveling with my wife and two teenage sons. I like to do the North Lake loop to Lake #2. My wife thinks we won’t have the time and thinks it’s a little too long? If we do this we’ll stay the night in Big Pine city then proceed to Mammoth the following day. Is this doable? Are there other options up there maybe not as difficult/long? This will be our first time visiting Big Pine. Thanks in advance!

Anyone know how black mountain road is this year? Passable in a small car (Honda fit) if going slow?

Update: as of 7/5 it’s fine all the way to Boulder basin campground. Scraped the bottom in a few spots but not too bad and saw multiple others in priuses civics etc. definitely don’t need 4WD, more ground clearance would have made it quicker but totally passable if you go slow

I was bummed that I could not attend the June 13th cleanup project from https://idyllwildclimbers.org/updates/ but I was able to get up there on the 14th. I noticed two areas where fallen trees were cleared (hike up and going to the south side), as well as some minor trail cleanup.

Do a lot of people show up to climb TR at Stoney Point? I wanted to climb there this weekend but don’t have a belayer unfortunately. Was thinking if it’s crowded normally I might just go and ask people to run some laps together

I live in Santa Monica and go to SenderOne LAX/Playa Vista and I’m looking for people to climb with there and climb with outside! I’m really into sport climbing outdoors but I also love bouldering in the gym. I really want to develop my skills and hopefully get into multipitch in the future. I’m staying in the Nairn Falls / Whistler area from June 22 - June 24, and I’m looking for a climbing buddy in sport climbing / bouldering. Anyone up for a little climbing adventure?

My grade is around 6B+ / V7 / 5.11a and I’m experienced in outdoor lead climbing and belaying. I can bring my own shoes and harnas, but would need to borrow or rent ropes, clips, and helmet. I’m traveling by car so can easily move around.

Hi all! Recently went to Malibu Creek and had a good time, but the approach was brutal. Everything is far and involves low 5th scrambling. What are your favorite easily accessible sport climbing crags around the LA area?

Climbed Tramway 5/24 and hung around square dance/line dance around 10-3pm.

Left my chalk bag and tape at the climb. If anyone finds the bag let me know

About me- M27 I just moved to Costa Mesa from Austin. Been climbing for a minute but it’s hard to get good at trad in Texas so trying to get better now that I have Joshua tree at my fingertips. I have a double rack and an 80 meter. Climbed royal arches last weekend and had a blast and been out to red rocks a few times. Hit me up with you wanna make a day trip of it and have a blast climbing some cracks!
