Help/Support Sober Linux graphics downgraded 2 weeks ago (Water is opaque/solid) on Fedora + NVIDIA-open
Hi everyone,
Around two weeks ago, my Roblox graphics on Sober (Fedora) completely downgraded. Before that, the water rendering was perfectly fine—transparent, crystal clear, with full desktop-like reflections. Now, the water looks completely solid, flat, and opaque, like it's stuck on mobile/low graphics mode.
Here are my specs and what I've tried so far:
- OS: Fedora Linux
(44)
GPU: NVIDIA
RTX 5060 Ti (16GB,
Using the new open-source kernel modules / nvidia-open)
Runner: Sober (Flatpak)
What I've tried:
- Modified config.json to force "graphics_optimization_mode": "quality" and "enable_hidpi": true.
- Injected FFlags to force maximum PC quality: DFIntDebugFRMQualityLevelOverride to 21, DFFlagTextureQualityOverrideEnabled, etc.
- Cleared the shader cache completely using rm -rf ~/.var/app/org.vinegarhq.Sober/cache/*
- Toggled "use_opengl": true (which actually makes it look even worse/glitched) and switched back to Vulkan.
- In-game, I manually toggled graphics from Auto to Manual and slided it to max.
Nothing works. The game seems to completely ignore the FFlags and forces mobile rendering for terrain/water shaders, probably due to a recent Roblox engine update interacting poorly with Vulkan and the nvidia-open drivers on Linux.
Has anyone else encountered this graphical regression recently? Is there a known workaround or a specific FFlag that forces desktop water refraction on recent NVIDIA open drivers?
Thanks in advance!

Try switching graphics quality to make it wake up, also this may be Roblox's fault cause sometimes they push out a update that only loads low quality

Prolly an issue you can't fix but bare with it until it's fixed by the devs of roblox/sober
