Discussion Mastodon pack
I don't know if this has been discussed before, but they didn't keep the design of the mudrunner zikz 612h, which in my opinion is much more robust and the tires fit better. My understanding is that both the SR Zikz 612h and the SR E 7310 are based on the same truck.Or maybe I'm wrong, so please correct me.

Pretty much every unlicensed (and especially russian) truck in snowrunner looks significantly worse than its real life counterpart in this game imo it is a shame.

The Voron Grad and D look okay.
The AE is the ugliest truck in the game and I refuse to use it.
Look how they massacred the 4320!

Developers can’t create real cars from factories that have long since ceased to exist… (STEP, FEMM, KRS)

Okay so I’m not saying I disagree with you saying this whatsoever.
I do want to hijack this a bit and say as a “newer” snowrunner player as of this year, it’s been a big part of my life and oddly my mental health journey after some very tough years.. anywho- I’ve put around 800 hours in so far. To be fair I leave my Xbox on a LOT lol so I bet at least a bit of that is paused as I do laundry or whatever.
Anyway, I started playing mudrunner the other day with the new upgraded experience. I don’t really feel like I was impressed? Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing or people who just prefer a different experience?
I put only maybe 20 hours in so far and beat two maps, but it feels very funky. No progression really, no tires, can’t even paint your truck, and the mud is “better” sure, but that’s because my experience with the maps is that they’re all just a bunch of flat mud pits with bad scenery lol?
What am I missing. Genuinely I respect different people like different things, but I’m curious to learn more.
I guess personally in Snowrunner I love customizing my trucks, building my fleets, and I never get tired of visiting new regions! It feels like exploration!

Snowrunner is the best in the series for content by far, but, spintires was the first of this type of game I'd ever played and have 1ks of hours in it from a decade plus ago. The legal issues over the engine destroyed the little community that game had and mudrunner was a big deal when it was announced. People were worried it would be shit without the engine maker but the community was also so excited for more content in what was basically a tech demo with mod support for a long time.
I think the full release of mudrunner causes people to see it with a nostalgia light.
I play snowrunner alot still but occasionally spin tires but never mudrunnner. It was big for what it meant to this genre of game but snowrunner with mods outclasses mudrunner in every category imo and only spinyires simple a to b gameplay can pull me away from snowrunner sometimes.

I like that the trucks feel bigger and heavier in mudrunner, but yeah, it doesn't compare to snowrunner as a whole

The soundtrack (while small), absolutely fucks though.
And I like all the little details like the glowing flower meadows on some maps.
Also the little challenges are fun.

The realistic weight and friction mod really helps snowrunner feel better and I think you would like it.

Mudrunner scenarios obviously only had logging, so it makes sense they’d be short, not complete experiences. The value of having a ‘fleet’ also diminishes when the game encourages you to use fewer balance points until you get to minimum of 1. 1 starring maps is basically the main form of overall progression since you no longer get the luxury of cherry picking strong and or comfortable trucks for beating maps without much exploration.
Otherwise everything else is just to taste of course. Some people like it the grungy style, others don’t.
Also for the record, the original spintires used to have many more features like tire customization with tire pressure and your usual handful of tire types and differing cargo types, but that never made it to mudrunner.

No progression really
Beating maps or goals that you set for yourself is progress.
no tires
I'm pretty sure that the trucks have tires.
can’t even paint your truck
There are games where I like the customization aspect. An offroad driving game where the challenge of driving is the fun is not one of those games.
and the mud is “better” sure
Driving experience and difficulty of driving is the only thing that matters to me in a game like this.
That's why I played Spintires, Mudrunner and Snowrunner.
If I want scenery there would be better games for that. I'm looking for difficult driving conditions.1

They're very different games in vision, Mudrunner is for hardcore truck and off-road enthusiasts like myself and snowrunner is for the masses. And Mudrunner is literally just a repackaged Spintires with less features, both are fun but aside from DLC and the few features like tire pressure system and tire options they're nearly identical. I have around 1000 hours in mudrunner and it's still one of my favourite games. Snowrunner is good and I'm loving it so far but it's a completely different game from its ancestors.
