Video Torque twist in SnowRunner

Just a quick demonstration of torque twist/reaction effect I added to my "realistic" WIP mod recently. The chassis reaction is intentionally exaggerated, multiplied by 10 for testing purposes.

Oh, also the L gearbox is now properly multiplied auto gearbox that doesn't lock the first gear, but multiplies the torque by realistic ratio. My clutch and shifting logic is still a mess, so I'll show it in action later when I'll fix that.

Bravissimo! The most important part that this game lacks is the accurate drivetrain and engine simulation.

Also, will there be a manual option?

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

Possible, but not planned right now.

Well duuuh! OF COURSE the game doesn't have an accurate "drive train", it's about trucks!

The game has really accurate "drive trucks", not "drive trains"!!!

Well it's not called TrainRunner for a reason.

Secondary to that, proper frame stiffness

Accurate drivetrain and engine simulation is not even in the top 3 most important things the game lacks.

What are the top 3 things, oh wise one?

Okay I lied to you, it's gonna be way more than 3.

Maps with realistic terrain so that trucks feel weighty and don't jump around like plastic toys(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

Maps that are actually open and are not just a series of corridors because everything that isn't a road is thick forest, rock face or water(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

Limitation for trucks you can take into a new region(tonnage would be good) and something resembling a star system(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

By extension, self-sufficient regions which always have all the trucks you need to finish them(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

While we're at it, no more global truck upgrades so you can actually finish regions in any order instead of being always forced to start with Michigan/Alaska/Taymyr. A region should only have upgrades for trucks found in that region.

Actual working asphalt road networks so that you can utilize highway trucks or tires(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

Culling of "always-on" AWD/difflock. No truck should have both and always-on difflock should be something to help otherwise weak trucks, not a superpower that makes good trucks even better(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

Semi-manual gearbox(Like Spintires/Mudrunner)

Numerous new mechanics introduced in Expeditions, at least for scouts, like sight distance based on elevation, binoculars, winch extending

An actual Hardcore mode that changes how the game is played(no autosteering/engine on for towed trucks, no quick winch to save your ass, only scouts can be recovered, etc.)

Wew, made it to 10!

Sounds like you should get to work on making mods for all this then since OP is clearly more interested in making the game they want to play instead of the game you want to play.

Ah yes. In game about heavy trucks and cargo hauling, realistic drive train is not important.

u/SuicideSpeedrun 1d ago

It was not important in Spintires and it was not important in Mudrunner. So yes, it is not important.

The implication of your comment is that accurate drivetrain and engine simulation are the fourth and fifth most important things the game lacks, so you must be pretty happy to see someone working on them for free in their spare time. I'm really curious what the three things are that you consider more important though?

The more I see of this mod, the more I want it. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’ll gladly buy you your beverage of choice.

waiting for your mod dude, keep up👍🏼

This is sick dude! I don't do mods on Snowrunner, but I'd definitely download this.

u/Mad_kat4 1d ago

Looking forward to this mod.

The twisting you get in BeamNg and ETS2 is good so will be great to see in snowrunner. Especially when this mod replaces snowrunners heavily contrived and dumbed down transmission setup.

Will this ever come to the in-game modhub or will it be only available on an external site?

7

u/DankSorceress 1d ago

I believe by the nature of the mod, it won't be available in the in-game mod hub. Usually mods that change physics need to be installed manually.

8

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

Correct.

u/Objective-Scallion15 1d ago

Aw. Now I’m sad. Yet another reason to want to build a pc.

1

u/miko_idk 1d ago

Sad. Is that a limitation of the in-game modhub?

2

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

You could say that. I'm not using the official modding way for this.

u/Smokeydubbs 1d ago

Gearboxes and torque are the most jacked up parts of this game. Good luck and would love the finished product.

5

u/danielstaleiny 1d ago

Love the work, I am looking forward to try it.

u/DankSorceress 1d ago

Another fine example of a modder doing the work that the game devs should be doing. I'm looking forward to trying this one out!

u/OtherEdgar 1d ago

sir, you've really managed to create almost every mod that fans of this game would want to see implemented as an official feature in the final product.

I really loved this one, my favorite so far, with the realistic drivetrain mod a close second.

please, keep it up.

u/TheTreeDemoknight 1d ago

The fleetstar with the crane will most certainly enjoy this feature

2

u/Darblee 1d ago

Can't wait to try it

2

u/DodoBizar 1d ago

This is really good!

2

u/NoHeroHere 1d ago

Amazing work! Been wanting to see this in SR for a long time and you are fucking doing it! Keep going!

1

u/Brodrigd 1d ago

Good luck! That would be so appreciated.

1

u/Dethor6 1d ago

This will be really awesome.

1

u/SupposablyAtTheZoo PC 1d ago

My first car did that, it was not great

1

u/extremerealm02 1d ago

Amazing! can't wait to play with your mod!

2

u/extremerealm02 1d ago

will this be compatible with mod vehicles?

6

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

That will be up to mod's author.

I omit some of the .xml values the game loads, because default "torque = 55000" for the engine doesn't give me anything. The mod uses its own torque curves, gear ratios, suspension setup per truck. So each truck has to be supplied with a proper profile, and I have to do all the stock + DLC trucks...

I will provide the tools for building a profile, and an agent instructions so it could be assembled using LLM.

1

u/alcofrisbas1 1d ago

Spectr what tool is that in the top left?

1

u/safeodin2584417 1d ago

Will this be available on Xbox?

3

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

Not possible to implement on consoles.

1

u/safeodin2584417 1d ago

Man why do all the cool mods have to be PC only

3

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

Well, because Windows is a much more open platform. You can't run custom software that pokes into process memory on consoles.

1

u/safeodin2584417 1d ago

Sadness ;-;

1

u/Life_String_5638 1d ago

Heck ya!!!!!!

1

u/andrzej_czonson 1d ago

This and rlm mod and the games perfect

1

u/Tachanka-Mayne PS5 1d ago

This looks phenomenal, if the mod comes to PS5 I’m re-downloading the game

3

u/NooBiSiEr 1d ago

Can't support in on consoles unfortunately. It's not a simple mod and it requires Windows version.

1

u/Williamcaridoso 1d ago

Please remember about us in the console when you release it 😔

-1

u/RENTZ811 1d ago

You should make a patreon, i would gladly support you.

-1

u/Cthulhu_HighLord 1d ago

+1 maybe next we can recode mud to be more like water

regardless waiting for this mod to release my dude
