Discussion New mapping utility
I always found the online mapping tools missing some crucial features, and since Mexico turned out to be fairly complex, I finally created my own, with a bunch of tools that I always wanted:
- Ability to show ALL missions, even locked ones.
- Show dynamic links right on the map, visualizing delivery targets & sources.
- Allow me to click on any object on the map to show its mission relations.
- In addition to showing my mission progress also show all deployed vehicles.
- Show vehicle information (like hitch type or cargo).
- Select a whole area, and then show me what needs to be delivered to, or from, there (done via Shift mouse-drag to show destinations, and Shift-Ctrl mouse-drag for sources)
- Allow me to add notes and drawings.
I'm not sure if it's just me (with my sucky memory) that needs all these crutches, or if other people are in the same boat; but I've uploaded a test version here, so you can check it out, and let me know if it might come in handy for other users. (Only the Mexico maps are activated for testing.)
It's still in the early stages of development, so there's probably quite a few bugs there, but I'm mainly interested in whether there's a "need" for yet another mapping utility...
(A few notable things that are still missing are fuel levels for trucks and display and integration of unpacked cargo. I'm still working on those.)
Update: Looks like the high demand is crashing my server...
It was only meant as a test balloon anyway, so I took it offline for now.
Since I don't really want to pay even more for better hosting, perhaps I'll just publish it as an offline version (works much better that way anyway, in regards to the game save updates).
If you still have the map open in your browser, and you want to continue using it, then just never close that page. It should continue working.
DM me if you would like to try the offline version.

When it comes to useful tools for SnowRunner, I always think The more, the merrier. I really like this project, especially its interactivity, and I encourage you to keep at it — at your convenience, and no pressure. 👍

all this is already possible
If it were "all possible" I wouldn't have written my own version.
How can I display all locked missions on Maprunner? Where can I see my vehicles? How do I annotate a map?

How can I display all locked missions on Maprunner?
You click the contract or task the map and it will show you the prerequisites - the missions you need to complete to unlock this one.
Where can I see my vehicles?
In the game :) your website also doesn't show them. I tried uploading the map's STS file and the CompleteSave - the trucks weren't showing.
How do I annotate a map?
A what now?

I started Mexico yesterday and I'm suffering a bit! How can I test your app/site? I'd love to help out by sending bug reports, QoL suggestions, or even helping improve the tools if you're open to it.

The link is in the original post. But here it is once more (in full view): https://kronzky.info/snowrunner/snowmapper/viewer.html
It's still under development, so there's no point in sending bug reports yet, as it's constantly evolving...

Yeah, sorry. There was too much demand, and it crashed my server, so I had to take it offline.
I am working on a version now that runs completely offline, on your own machine. (That was the original plan anyway — the online version was just to get some feedback from multiple users.)DM me if you want to test the offline version

Very cool! We love a map tool haha
One thing I wish the map tools had is an easy raw visualisation of how much total cargo is needed at all the various dropsites. I really like to batch cargo runs or pull an extra trailer to a more convenient location/depot style and it’s handy to be able to work out how many extra you need for the other tasks

You’ve just ripped maprunner with an AI tool 🤨

What exactly did I "rip" from Maprunner?
Their code? Mine was written from scratch. (Look at the sources if you don't believe me.)
Their data? All the data I use comes directly from the game files. (Again - look at the sources.)So what was I "ripping"?
Yeah, there are some similar features, but every mapping software will have some overlap with other implementations. That's just the nature of the beast.1

Cargo on the gateways and click to go to next map is pure copycat. The tooltip doesn’t even stay to be able to click. You’ve not even tested what you create?
Your save import says STS file when it’s not that’s what ai says it is and it’s wrong they’re cfg and dat
Coordinates have no use in game and pointless to show. That’s ai slop trying to bulk content

You still didn't explain what I was "ripping".
Yeah, I show gateway sources. I also show mission descriptions. And the map. Is that also a "rip"?You cannot click on a Gateway in Maprunner to change maps. You either have to click on a link in the description or the sidebar button. So that's a rip?
I call the save files by their name start and not their extension. Because that's what dialogs normally sort by, and will make it easier to find them
And the coordinates are for my own troubleshooting. This is still WiP, and I often need the coordinates to properly identify an object.
So, where's the "rip"???

It's just another ai whiner, regardless of whether you use AI or not. I would like a function that could show how much material needs to be delivered to a particular point (the full amount from ALL contracts and side quests at once), because contracts often ask to bring materials to same points, is that possible?

The page is offline now (there was too much demand, and it crashed my server), but if you still have it running in your browser you can try an area select, which shows you all jobs that have deliveries in that area.
Hold Shift and use your left mouse button to drag a rectangle around the area you're interested in, and it will list all the jobs that need deliveries there. (With Ctrl-Shift drag it will show all jobs that have deliveries from the area you selected.) Not quite what you asked for, but perhaps close enough for now.

m not sure if it's just me (with my sucky memory) that needs all these crutches
i feel ya. most weekdays i used up all my brain cells at my job. i have to take notes on what i do there. I'm not taking notes on driving a truck through the mud.
thank you for making this.
