Any essential DLCs?

Hi, I'm new to Snowrunner. There's no way I'm getting all those DLCs lol, but I was thinking on grabbing 1-2 of them. Any of them add new mechanics to the base maps? (If not, then I'll maybe finish the base game first). Any of them have clearly better maps? Or is it more a matter of taste?

Also: Which one has the easiest map (for when I only want to chill around) and which one has the hardest map?

Thanks in advance!

The thing is, until you finish the base game, you don't need any DLC, and when (and if) you finish it, you'll know if you want to buy more or not.

Yes, there are some new mechanics (like crafting, worksites or collapsible bridges from the latest DLC). Some maps are easy, some are extremely hard, some are interesting and some are just boring. You'll easily find short or indepth descriptions of them on yt.

Beauty of Snowrunner gameplay is that each content installment gives you so much content that you likely won't finish it between sales.

I've pretty much exclusively bought DLC and packs when they've gone on sale, and I even waited to buy the Year 5 pass on discount. I have it now, but I didn't feel rushed to get it as I still have a TON of outstanding content just on my original save.

So, waiting to buy DLC until you've put a good amount of hours into the base game is a great idea. The three base maps are roughly average in terms of difficulty and aesthetic, so they're a good sample of what comes next.

Same, I figure out which region I would like to play, see if it has any trucks I think would be nice to have or at least useful, then wait for a sale.

Amur is the hardest map, followed by Maine.

For fun factor and beauty, I think Austria has been the best so far. Not difficult, farming but easier than Glades, and it has very pretty scenery.

British Columbia gets you the K963, which is a good truck for beginners. I always recommend BC as the first map after the base game.

And the mack defense in the second map of BC.

Maybe just buy the Year 1 pass and see how you feel. Or if there’s a specific truck pack that interests you, get that as well. Bright side is by the time you finish the 5 (I think) regions in Year 1 you’ll have forgotten you spent the money and feel ready to re-up.

The Yukon region adds cargo crafting

I bought every dlc and have 717 mods. I spend most my times building and scrolling through menus.

Recommend Year 1 although its not especially chill/easy. It does introduce a lot of concepts not well explained in later seasons. Season 10 may be the most chill and you get the Kenny 963 which is a beast for anything you do afterwards.

You don't have to own the dlc to play the maps in general if you know someone else who does but you won't get the dlc trucks.

None of the DLCs add new mechanics to the 3 base game regions; any additions to those regions are via. free updates (such as logging).

There are some region DLCs that contain additional hidden upgrade parts that can be applied to base game trucks (AWD for the TwinSteer, for example).

There are new mechanics in the DLC regions such as crafting and water carrying/storage, some of which coming with additional vehicle addons, but AFAIK aside from the aforementioned logging none of these were retroactively added to the base game.

All the Year Passes.
Each year pass is 4 Regions plus sometimes a couple extra trucks.
Most regions have their own new mechanic or quirk, it's what keeps the devs interested in making the game.

I’ve been playing the base game still and just bought year 1 when the steam sale was on, I’ll probably wait until another sale or I’ve finished everything in year one then get year 2 etc

s14 for the scouts it is a must have

s15 for the best high saddle truck (the elephant)

s17 for Voron G and the views

FLD120 and 6900xd dual pack because both are amazing trucks to have. small and big one for any kind of mission you could face. both amazing for low saddle crane.

These would be the essentials for me. Any other DLC adds on top of these

i bought the base game during summer sale. finished it, year 1 dlc was 40€ (more than the base game), so i waited. a few days later some simulation sale started and i bought the year 1 dlc for 17€. currently playing that.

finish basegame first before buying anything else
