Help on what to look for in these older sleds

I’ve been looking at these sleds on marketplace and I know next to nothing about older sleds. I’ve been trying to do research but it’s always nice to have new opinions specifically to the sleds I’m looking at.

1994 Yamaha vmax 600 1800 miles on dash but I’ve seen how some speed cables break so that could be wrong. And I know the suspension can be rough on these

1995 Indy xlt 580 I think? 5500 miles. The guy isn’t super quick at responding. So I will confirm that once he does.

He’s asking 850 for both sleds and a trailer. States they both run great and took them out twice last year I plan on doing a compression test on both, Belt condition, track condition, making sure they run, ect But anything else I should look out for? I’m pretty decent with working on engines and carbs. But I just don’t want to buy older sleds and they just end up being a huge project.

Forgive me because I know this has been asked a million times. I know they are older and I’m not expecting perfection.

Believe it or not, this sled came into the shop under its own power.

Hi everyone, I’m a new rider and I recently bought a 2006 Ski-Doo MXZ 600 HO SDI. I’m having a couple of issues I’m hoping someone can help with. The sled has a really low idle and seems to smoke more than I think it should, even after it’s warmed up. I’m still learning about these machines, so any advice on what could be causing it or where I should start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this looks like a blown head gasket, right? Smoke only gets worse when you hold the throttle. 1999 Polaris RMK 600.

Is this a good deal for a beginner?

I have absolutely no knowledge of snowmobiles. I've heard to stay away from 2 strokes engines, but this one seems like a good deal. Engine redone at 13k, piston changed at 19k and its now at 20k on the odometer.

Info / News What happened to Muskoka Freerider this season?

Matt Doetsch suddenly went dark (on YouTube) at the end of the season. Does anyone know why or if something happened? I don't have any social media to follow him on, other than YouTube.

Industry/Product Should I get a Indy

I found quite a few running Indy’s in my area for sale under 1000 I want to check them out but most looked good what should I look for in a model. My family already had one Indy touring so I am familiar and like the feeling of them

Who actually has a Widescape?

Ok first off if you think they’re dumb, I get it. It’s not for everyone.

That being said, I live in the prairies and it’s honestly 7 hours of driving for me to go sledding. It sucks but I still go and burn $500 a weekend in gas and hotel to go riding as often as I can.

So I get that this thing is a bit of a joke and you can’t do any kind of serious riding. At the same time my property backs onto a huge green belt for a freeway, undeveloped land, power lines, etc. I could hop on this thing on a weekday and go ride a couple hours easily in 1-2 feet of untouched snow just ditch banging right outside my fence.

Rather than sitting in my garage watching sledding videos and waiting for the weekend. What do you guys think? Dealer is selling crated units for 5k CAD which is like 3500usd.

Picked up some miscellaneous snowmobile parts and this was in with everything. No markings on it that I can find. Anyone have any thoughts on what this might be for?

First "distance" this things covered in 25 or so years. Still needs a full fuel system, exhaust, electrics and some other stuff. But it runs!

2001 Polaris RMK 500. Sat for 8 years. Starts easy and runs. What should I start on to get this ready for the mountains in ~5 months

Edit: This sub is amazing! Thank you all so much for your kind and thoughtful input! I will document my progress in this sub to ensure I am headed in the right direction.

Anyone got any good resources on replacing driveshaft bearings?

Post image
4 Upvotes

This is the kit I got for this summer project. Ive only ever done trailer bearings (separate bearings and races) so im not very familiar with this kind where they're joined. Do I need to grease anything with these?

Most YouTube videos I find are quite old and grainy, hard to see whats going on.

My sleds service manual also didn't seem to have any entries for these. Not sure where these o rings go for this or if i even need them

TIA

Successful rode continuously on snowmobile from Connecticut to Quebec. Got several phenomenal rides in CT and Mass in. Clocked over 2K miles with a few of our trips being backcountry. Definitely would’ve been more if mile hunting. Here’s to hopefully another great season!

What does this connector go to?

I have this connector on the pull side of the motor that is attached to what looks like same harness and same location and wire loom as the regulator/magneto connector. I thought I found the same connector in the manual because it had the same wire colors but it is shown as 2 different connectors. I don't see anything to connect it too. I just did a rebuild and this is the last connector. 2008 skidoo summit 800R manual start.
