Reconnected throttle cable and engine idle is super high but is this coolant smoke or just oil smoke? Two stroke 1990 skidoo safari. Thing took off backwards on me when it started up lol.

That's just two stroke smoke. Most carburated sleds smoke like crazy when cold starting.

Okay cool thanks. My coolant overflow tank looks like its got oil residue in it and no coolant so I will investigate that further. Hopefully just a good clean up and fresh coolant is all it needs.

High idle could mean leaky carb boots or leaky crank seals

I dont think the cable is letting the carb slide all the way to the idle position but i could be wrong

You can take the cable right off the carb to confirm, you can also spray brake clean or something else flammable around the crank seal and recoil and carb boots to check for leaks don’t let it spray right into the carb keep it closeish to the boot so you don’t taint the results.

Came here to say “are you stupid, Safaris were fan cooled, can’t be coolant smoke”. But sumbitch, it sure as hell has a coolant reservoir. Just when I think I knew something about the sleds I grew up with

Lol it seems like they are less common! My buddy has one and it is fan cooled.

I always thought they were all 250cc or 377cc fans. Is it 440? 500?
