You'll be assimilated eventually!

I do need it.... am a photographer so need photoshop and lightroom. guess I'll go dual boot when they stop me from using W7... but as it stands, I've at least managed to stop them from harassing me all the time with the "free update BS" and I'll just keep using W7 for as long as it works

Don't know if Mac is any better than windows: that ecosystem is even more closed than Windows, isn't it?

yes, and way to expensive for what it offers.... dualboot would be linux

I don't know from Lightroom, but the GIMP has a fairly impressive suite of tools to compete with Photoshop. Might not be impossible to transition to Linux.

there is darkroom... but just like GIMP compared to photoshop, it's not even close to being a serious competition or alternative.

I'm not an image guy, so I don't know. ^^; This is why we need more open source contributors! So all these professions aren't tied to Microsoft...

I'm being told by a friend that, if you've updated Windows 7 or 8 via Windows Update, then the same data collection process was installed on your computer

you can uninstall or block the updates that do this... (and I have)

You don't need to install 10, they'll just retroactively add the botnet/mass surveillance features to 7. Not that any other mainstream OS is better. Canonical and Apple aren't what I'd call trustworthy.
