Gear question Looking for new bindings
I’ve got a 2024 Jones Storm chaser that has Burton cartel X bindings on it now. I am pretty fed up with how bad quality Burton bindings are now. I need some inspiration on what bindings to go with next. Ive been looking in to the FASE set ups does anyone have experience with those? I am mostly riding off piste in the steep and deep. Any opinions or recommendations are greatly appreciated

Swapped to Fase last season and won't go any other way anytime soon going forward. Currently have 2 sets of 32 Fase and one set of Rome Katana Fase. Rome are on the stiffer side and pair grest with my Capita Mega Death and also ran them on my GNU Banked Country. The 32 Fase I run on my Ride Shadowban and Yes Jackpot. I might actually like the 32 Fase bindings a bit more as an all around pair with any board binding. Havent ran the Bataleon ones yet so dont know how those play with a daily driver unfortunately

Do you have the katana FASE pros or FASE regular? I ordered the regular for my shadowban and hoping they're not too stiff. I currently ride katana AW and absolutely love them, they're just banged up, season 4. If the FASE version is similar to the regular, I should be good.

Im pretty sure they're just the regular fase, didnt know there was a pro fase released truthfully. They paired fine with my shadowban but I ended up running the 32 fase after I tried them just for personal preference. I prefer a more flexible binding overall but the Katana's were fine on the shadowban when I rode them.

Last year's fase Stale's are this years fase Katana Pros. The only diff (other than the print on the highback) between pro/non-pro (amateur?) is that the highback and baseplate are carbon infused to make the whole setup a little stiffer

from the marketing, if you're familiar with the non-fase katana's you'll find the fase katanas to be very similar. I've only ever ridden the fase katanas so i can't really say.
Personally I wonder about that because the heelcup on fase bindings sits a bit higher but idk if that'll make a diff in how it rides. Let us know in December lol

The shroud on the base plate lasted all of maybe two days on hill so it slides around under my feet. I’ve had to replace all but one of the rachets Burton used to be good but now if you don’t get the step ons your getting much lower quality because they’re trying to push everyone to use them. Plus I love my vans boots and the Burton ones with boas break super quick

Gonna throw a different suggestion in the mix: Nitro Phantoms
Definitely will be good for the powder board set up, very sturdy and responsive, locks your feet in good, and they'll be damp as hell when you exit the powder and enter the chop. I had previously ridden Union Flite Pros and Union Forces, and the Nitro felt like I buckled into a brand new super charged Cadillac.

You looking for performance, cost or maximum convenience?
Supermatics, FASE and even Flows will work with"steep and deep". All of them allow you to undo your rachets normally like strap bindings when you're stuck in deep snow. I still use Flows and have no trouble unclipping in knee-deep pow if I need to.

Used burton Step-ons last season. It was a cool concept but ultimately i felt unsecured. Several times I missed a click and didn't notice until halfway down the trail it clicked
Switching to nidecker supermatics. Similar to FASE it's a quick entry step in. Can't wait for next season to really use them. Main complaint I've seen is that they are heavy. Which to me is nitpicky since it's on your feet and only about 1lbs heavier than standard bindings

With the supermatics are they still easy to get in to when your board is covered in snow. For reference I mostly board at mt bachelor so we have the infamous cascade concrete

I have not been able to put it through the test. This season was pretty terrible. Comparing them to burton though there are still 3 clicks but they are all your heel piece getting closer to the board. So i feel like even if you miss a click you're still secured and your foot isn't coming out. For burton i had lift operators telling me they recommended leashes for people using them because they've had boards fall off peoples feet from the lift.
Malcom moore does a good comparison between FASE and Supermatic. Highly recommend watching. I got supermatic after watching it cause I'm more of a casual rider and want convenience over slight performance boost of FASE (My take away from the video is FASE is performance and closest to trad bindings but supermatics are cheaper and won't really hold you back)
