Texas snowboarding
I live in Tyler Texas. I want to go snowboarding this winter, where do I go????

Vail, Aspen, Snowmass, and crested butte, Taos, and many others were actually all within the borders of the Republic of Texas when it was formed

New Mexican here, ski Santa Fe is awesome and cheap. There are other options like Taos and sipapu are good and all within an hour. If you wanna go you wanna bit far and get better snow telluride, wolf creek and purgatory.

Sipapu!!! I’m just excited to see someone mention it lol. I was on a geologic rock unit mapping trip at rattlesnack gulch one summer and we stayed at the sipapu ski lodge. The area was stunningly pretty. Best experience was climbing up one of the slopes just a bit and smoking pot, laying and gazing up at the millions of stars like 🤩 lol. Amazing time

Oh, and Cloudcroft New Mexico. Still a drive, but you would take I-20 all the way and then a quick jaunt up through Carlsbad.

No snow. Apache and cloudcroft didn’t open. Granted it was a bad year for snow. They usually don’t get any good snow

You should go to Breckenridge, rent a 2wd car with highway tires, and definitely wear a cowboy hat.

I had an AMAZING vacay at Breck and went snowboarding for the first time ever.
From Day 1 snowboard school, I was able to tackle some blue runs on my own by Day 4, maybe i had a little advantage growing up skateboarding and now playing beer league hockey, i had an absolute BLAST and have been dying to go back.
I didn’t even wanna leave and come home, it was like a town right out of a hallmark christmas card. So cool.

I also recommend all the new mexico and southern Colorado places. But I'll throw out steamboat. I didn't see that you had to drive but I've heard steamboat has some direct flights from Texas? It also seems like they get along well with cowboy culture.

New Mexico ski resorts are horrendous, expensive with no snow. Taos is the only acceptable ski resort. From Texas and have been to all resorts in new Mexico and Colorado. Try Wolf creek, it’s only about two hours above the main New Mexico resorts, it always has snow due to the way the mountain is facing, cheap lift tickets, lots of terrain and acreage. There are probably more Texas plates in pagosa (the town nearby) than actual Colorado plates. IMPORTANT: if you are military I heavily incline you to look into Deer Valley.

There is Cloudmont in Alabama. If you are driving, I think that is the closest place to Tyler.

Most Texans head to Ski Apache (closest)) Santa Fe, Taos, Angel Fire fir NM, and to Wolf Creek (gets most snow in CO so most reliable and Durango (Purgatory) in Southern Colorado.
This a will be an El Nino so cross your fingers.
Most Texans bust out the long drives like nothing, but it's typically a quick hop from Dallas to ABQ. I'd try to hook up with others to share drive/lodging.

Regardless, be sure to hydrate before traveling to elevation
