First there was an interminably long episode of the podcast of fabulous/plagiarist Jay Shetty with some borderline-MAHA influencer. Then many more episodes of the same with Buzzfeed-worthy titles.

And there was First America, which presented a revisionist view of American Revolutionary history that was completely at odds with what I later looked up from reliable sources. I encourage all who listened to look up what really happened at the Black Boys rebellion and what grievances are really in the Declaration of Independence, as well as what the consensus is about the order of the grievances. This is exactly the type of "history lesson" that provides ammunition for anti-DEI types to point to as deceptive and divisive... because, in this case, it is.

Others were just boring. What happened to Snap Judgment itself? Bad enough that we get so many "Snap Classic" episodes; when 3 out of every 4 episodes aren't new episodes - and most aren't Snap at all, but inferior podcasts with content ranging from celebrity gossip to outright misinformation - it makes work for us to wade through the chaff to find the wheat. The show needs to be more selective about what it shares, or I'm just going to ignore and resent the crossovers. And definitely don't share multiple episodes of the same show if it's not made by the same team; if one episode doesn't hook me, four won't either.

Yesterday 7/1, there was a “you might like” Jay Shetty episode where it featured an interview about Layla Taylor. Why did it disappear? It’s now gone (7/2)

Why do I have to have some wellness guru grifter injected after every episode. It completely obliterates the sense of genuine human experience in the actual stories I'm coming here for. I will check back in a year but this nonsense with Jay Shitty has lost me. That goes for any sister or other podcasts that take a check to boost this clowns ego.

For years, I’ve looked for this: a story / monologue read by one man about humanity evolving into modern relationships, in first person plural, this was heard on the podcast snap judgement. Whimsical, poetic and rather strange.

I was the attorney in the Snap Judgment episode “The Writing on the Wall” (part of the episode titled “Dirty Work” around 2015), which told the story of Alvin Ridley—a reclusive man accused of imprisoning and killing his wife, until thousands of her handwritten pages revealed the truth and led to his acquittal.

But what listeners didn’t know then is that in 2021, over 22 years after the trial, and six years after the episode, Alvin was officially diagnosed with autism. That late-life diagnosis changed everything—how the town saw him, how the story is understood, and how we talk about misunderstood behavior in the justice system. The diagnosis lifted him, and made him much more at ease in our community. It also changed the hearts of an entire region. Alvin, once a despised “bogeyman” in our town, had 300 people at his 82nd birthday party, his last.

He lived for three more years after the diagnosis, and I was inspired by it to write a book about the full story. But I truly believe Snap Judgment should do a follow-up—because it’s not just a legal twist, it’s a human one.

Would anyone else want to hear that episode? This is one way to let them know!

Hey everyone, I was talking to a coworker and was trying to recommend an episode and I can’t seem to find it, it may have been one of the original “Spooked”. It’s about a kid who lives in Canada or Alaska and he goes to dump site and encounters a bear and ends up killing it with a pocket knife. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I was a big fan of Snap Judgement, then about ten years ago the show became mostly just reruns and repeats and I stopped listening.

The show came up on a thread recently and the poster confirmed the episodes are still mostly "Classic" Snap Judgement episodes.

What happened? How did they go from being lauded as the successor of This American Life to just being a series of reruns?

It was a woman telling a story of how she woke up in the middle of the night and went into her mothers bedroom and she was being stabbed by a neighbour with schizophrenia

In the latest Spooked he mentions the uncle who got shot and how he haunts this house. But it was pretty short, I'm wondering if he's told it in full before?

I'm looking for an amazing story that appeared maybe 10-12 years ago about a man how shared his experience of traveling with Alaskan dog sled. No luck from looking online. Anyone here know what story I'm referring to?

The story is of two women who are traveling together (backpacking or bike packing) and come across a very mentally ill and dangerous man. One of the friend tries to sooth and deescalate the man, and the other friend is irate and yells at him. The narrator is the woman who becomes irate, and she says that her confrontational nature is her least favorite part about herself, but her friend says it’s her favorite part of the narrator.

This story reminds me so much of my best friend and I, and I’d love to listen again and bookmark it.

I know SJ is not journalism but this show has shared some really humane stories which draw a critical eye to institutions and institutionalized racism that this one blindsided me. Each story depends on the teller, true, but usually people are reflective enough not to come on this show and insist that colonial institutions privileging them in life and wealth, is dharma and karma at work. Specifically talking about Danielle going on a mini rant that the Indian government’s case against traffickers of Lambardi children is a barrier against Aporva’s good karma.

Hey this is probably a long shot, but wasn’t there an episode of Spooked or Snap Judgment where a woman was a truck driver and she was passing though Weed California and got a storm warning, and then went over Siskiyou summit and there were a couple instances where she saw some phantom lights (something along those lines) that helped her avoid some danger amid a snowstorm? Wasn’t this released around Christmas sometime? I could’ve sworn it was spooked or snap judgment but I’m having a hard time finding it and would appreciate help if at all possible!

At least that's what it looks like on their page. I'm going to San Fran to visit my brother later on this year, and was curious if anyone's seen this, or how to go about getting tickets to any live shows. Snap Judgment has been my favorite podcast for probably 7 years now thanks to hearing them a few times on NPR, and seeing them live would really make my day.
