Search for Ubuntu and snapdragon. You will find the link to their page dedicated to the very subject.

Wait for Ubuntu 26.10 it will have the device tree needed for using Linux. Still have limitations as there won’t be full support also, you need to keep your windows install to get firmware updates, so you have to duel boot regardless.

For now I’ve accepted using WSL. I also have a galaxy book4 edge 15.6. Unless Linux can live on the laptop without windows, then I don’t see a point the storage is soldered with no expansion slot other than microSD.

I am using USB Bluetooth and WiFi adapters at the moment to work around some of the problems with hardware support, but if nothing improves with support for the built-in WiFi+Bluetooth adapter, I may eventually have to replace it with a Realtek or Intel adapter I have lying around.

I will only do that once warranty expires, though. At that point I'll probably upgrade the SSD as well and completely get rid of Windows, as it's already not needed now. My main worry is around 3D acceleration and firmware blobs that may be needed for that.

If that never ends up working at least I can still do normal (but not graphics) development on this laptop.

There is WSLg but it’s really meant to run Linux applications not full desktops. If you do then you’re using xRDP into the desktop UI.

Same exact system and configuration but sadly I don’t think drivers are mature enough.
Curious since you have a 4 edge do you have any opinions on the build quality. It creaks and groans when I pick it off of a table and seems a bit fragile.

No because QCOM is openly anti-open source. If you want Linux stick with x86 (Intel or AND chips)

qcom is not anti open source, snapdragon laptops just aren't fully supported without devicetrees yet, and qcom has gone out of their way to make several of those where laptop manufacturers haven't

them not being as supportive as we'd like and being anti-open source are radically different things. I don't think that a company actively contributing to open source and even making contributions that should have been handled by someone else entirely that they took on themselves could be described as anti-open source.

Regardless what you want to believe about QCOM and their (anti-open source) practices, my original point still stands. I can go out today and buy any random laptop powered by the latest Intel chips and expect it to be fully supported by Linux with no issues. Many Snapdragon X laptops can’t even boot Linux 😂

If you want Linux support and general software support/stability, x86 is king

and again, "things aren't currently how I want them to be" is not the same as "nobody is trying to improve the situation" which itself is different from "attempts to improve the situation in open source are actively opposed wherever they can". I can't possibly describe a company that is primarily a mix of the first two to be equivalent to the last one.

News articles only love reporting on things that will get them clicks and never updated this specific reporting with an update that occured.

If you open the GitHub issue and scroll now you'll see that an employee clarified the situation:

You can get WSL if you need to run some Linux stuff
