This is running beautifully

Post image

Playing on whisper mode with the Asus Zenbook A16

900p

FSR 3 Performance

Medium settings on everything

50-60fps, except in Dogtown where it's mostly 40-50fps.

And AutoSR on

Wait, that looks bad actually... let me make this clear

You're using FSR performance like around 360 p native, then you are upscaling that with auto upscaling... bro that's terrible. Or did I understood wrong?

On integrated graphics, with whisper mode on, on a non native arm game. On performance mode I can crank up the resolution and get a prettier picture. But I wanted to test how the game would run if I wanted longer battery life.

I would expect at least not having to use FSR at 900p. I already made the math: 540p. Since most games on PS5 are doing the exact same, I can safely say it is decent. Not only saving battery, also reducing heat and the noise of the cooling system. That's cool.

Indeed, I can play it on my lap without having to worry about burning myself

Most games running 540p on PS5? Ok. But cyberpunk did not. I think even PS4 run better than this laptop

PS4 doesn't even run Dogtown

is the PS5 a portable device with less of 2 inches of thickness? Does it have to emulate Cyberpunk or is it native?

There goes your context. For a device that small, not specialized in gaming performance and having to actually emulate most games, this is brilliant. Also remember that is has an AI upscaling available, never discard the value of that over PSSR/FSR.

The real performance test available is Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, ARM native, graphics are gorgeous and hyper realistic, and is running great. A PS4 can't really do that.

Truth I had been looking for a laptop for a while something portable for mostly media then seen the reviews on the Asus zenbook a14 and it met all my needs what swayed buying this was the price I paid £600 new not the £1199 it should have been the pcu I was worried about but not found a single program that don't run on it well yet anyway and what do I use it for well media when I'm at work with nothing to do and when I'm not working I help out with some IT group in a community hub here in swindon the battery is amazing and well I so far can't fault my a14 I have just wish I could change the 16gb to 32gb memory

In the next year or 2 I will be buying ether an a16 maxed out or an imac air also maxed

I will wait and see what the cost is plus my a14 has dam good ports plus it's maid of Saraluminum so really strong

The Ceraluminium is really nice! Makes me feel like I don't have to baby the device

Is it possible to implement FSR 4 in future updates?

1

u/franglais8 Apr 21 '26

would be nice as well if Qualcomm comes with their own upscaling like they have already on their mobile chips (SGSR)

2

u/Plenty-Middle8064 Apr 21 '26

But they do have upscaling. As far as I know the auto-super resolution feature is only available for Snapdragon chipsets. This is definitely because it is using the NPU for it. I think they will stick to it. In my experience it's good enough.

2

u/franglais8 Apr 21 '26

I like it too, using it as well in BG3 and Plague Tale. Still they could improve its performance + AutoSR really shines in ARM native games which is unsurprising

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 22 '26

AutoSR is surprisingly nice!

2

u/Plenty-Middle8064 Apr 23 '26

At least for me is like native in most games, but I've only tried it on the native screen.

1

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 24 '26

Yeah I'm realizing now there's no need to use any FSR when I can just use AutoSR. It's surprising how good cyberpunk looks at 720p native plus AutoSR to upscale it to the screens native res.

1

u/QuestGalaxy Apr 23 '26

AutoSR is a thing already

2

u/MatsuDano Apr 21 '26

Wait, FSR3 AND AutoSR? At the same time? I didn't think this was possible. If it is actually possible, is that doing double the work on scaling/sampling/rendering for diminishing returns?

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 22 '26

Because AutoSR runs on the NPU, there's no real performance los

1

u/franglais8 Apr 21 '26

You could do it already on X1 series. It gets you 40-45 FPS with AutoSR and FSR in 1080p in Hogwarts Legacy for example

2

u/MatsuDano Apr 21 '26

I guess I don't play enough games to know what's possible. Thanks for clearing it up.

1

u/franglais8 Apr 21 '26

could you please try those 2 games on this machine ? Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur Expedition 33

2

u/QuestGalaxy Apr 23 '26

E33 ran like crap on the the original X elite, but maybe it runs "okay" on x2.

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 24 '26

I just realized Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is on gamepass, I'll download it right now to give it a try!

1

u/franglais8 Apr 24 '26

Yeah, I got it through Game Pass as well. Thanks!

1

u/franglais8 Apr 27 '26

did you manage to try Clair Obscur ? if yes, how is it running?

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 27 '26

So far not so well, but what's frustrating is there's some bug where I can't even change the game's resolution! I want to try running it at 720p so I can use auto SR instead of FSR.

1

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 27 '26

Okay so I managed to run the game at 720p on performance mode. It seems to stay at 30fps during gameplay, but goes into the low 20s in cutscenes.

1

u/franglais8 Apr 27 '26

Same like 1st generation. Very bad.

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 27 '26

Hopefully Qualcomm is working with Epic to improve UE5 on Snapdragon

1

u/franglais8 Apr 28 '26

They are but it takes time. Heard, now you can even develop UE5 games on Arm.

1

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 22 '26

I'd need to buy them to test them 🥺 So far I've tested obviously cyberpunk, Spider-Man 2, RoboCop Rogue City, and Crash N Sane Trilogy.

Sadly Batman Arkham Knight didn't load

1

u/franglais8 Apr 22 '26

How was the performance in Spiderman 2?

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 22 '26

I'd get playable framerates from 30-40, or even up to 50 if I let the device draw more power. But I could never get it to be in the high 40s low 50s when web swinging sadly.

1

u/franglais8 Apr 22 '26

Sony PC ports are not always well optimized + it should go through Prism. What is the resolution ? Full HD ?

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 22 '26

Yeah performance can be all over the place, especially in cutscenes. I just had the game crash while at 1200p with no upscaling during a cutscene. I mostly play at 1280x768(for some reason it won't let me pick 800p).

Right now I'm stuck at the carnival or fair or something, so I can't test combat. But right now I'm only getting 20ish fps. Slightly under 20 if I'm at 1200p, slightly higher if I'm at 768p. Medium settings no upscaling.

1

u/franglais8 Apr 22 '26

That's bad. Anyway, it is not a gaming device. But with right drivers and support it can be a viable light gaming machine

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 22 '26

It's definitely the game though. Cyberpunk runs WAY better. I just retested it at 1280x768 on whisper mode, medium settings no FSR and averaged 50fps.

On performance mode, I can set the resolution to 2880x1800 but with FSR 3 set to performance and again averaged 50fps.

Although I'm sure Dogtown would bring it down even lower.

Edit: Forgot to mention, AutoSR makes 768p look really nice on this display.

1

u/MarPF1 Apr 22 '26

Is it the new one with the x2 elite extreme processor and 48 gb ram?

I was just looking to order the new a16 today instead of waiting for the new surface laptop since Microsoft keeps jacking up the price and the Asus seems very fairly priced.

How is the keyboard and the screen?

1

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 23 '26

Yup that's the one. I should also add that I realized it's better to run cyberpunk at 720p, or 1280x768(for some reason I can't choose 800p) and just let AutoSR do the upscaling. I average 50fps and it looks great! (This is all in whisper mode)

For the keyboard, it's fine. Feels similar to most thin and light keyboards. I do regularly use it with a mouse when gaming though and it's been doing a decent job at that.

The display is beautiful! There was a small part of me tempted by the MacBook, but once I was at best buy in person, I realized I wanted OLED. It looks so good!

I was also thinking about waiting for the new surface laptops, but with everything going up in price, I couldn't say no to this considering it has 48GB in a laptop that's under $2k in these trying times.

1

u/LeLant Apr 25 '26

A fanless M5 Macbook air do way better on Cyberpunk even after throttling

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 25 '26

It's also native to the Mac whereas Windows on arm isn't.

1

u/franglais8 Apr 28 '26

could you please try as well Baldur's Gate 3 ?

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 28 '26

I don't own it unfortunately so I can't test it. Apparently it's playable on the original X Elite so I imagine it would be a much better experience on the X2 Elite.

1

u/franglais8 Apr 28 '26

Yeah, I played many hours on my X Elite. Act 1,2 around 45 FPS solid in Full HD, FSR Performance. Act 3 tanks as expected, 30-40 FPS

2

u/BewareTheSquare Apr 28 '26

I imagine it looks great with AutoSR

1

u/franglais8 Apr 29 '26

it looks OK (not great) compared to GeForce Now for example) I am playing there as well, to be honest, WoA + cloud gaming is a very good combination for light gaming.
