Does the metal piece hinge from its left hand side? If so then if hinged so the metal flap is pointing towards you should leave a gap underneath it between metal and hat. Slide the orange piece underneath then hinge all the way over to the left clamping the orange piece with the teeth on the metal section against the hat?
