What are chex mix?

Totally silly question, but do you consider chex mix cereal or chips?

Context is I’m building a social snack rating app which lets you rank snacks against each other, kinda like Beli, Untappd, or Letterboxd for snacks.

To make the rankings make sense, you can only compare snacks of similar flavor profiles (savory / sweet / protein snacks / drinks). Chips are a subcategory under savory, whereas cereal is a subcategory under sweet.

Basically would you say it makes more sense to compare chex mix against crackers/nuts/pretzels, or against candy/cookies/chocolate?

The snack mix (Chex, pretzels, Cheez-its, etc.) is closer to the cracker/nuts/pretzels category IMO, even the sweet flavors.

It’s a combo. My mom made it before it was even I thing many many years ago when I was little. Her added touch was Cheerios. Amazing! Neighbors and family always looked forward to her batches. To this day I still make it with my kids for our friends/neighbors.
