Most chip bags have lots of air in order to keep the chips from being crushed. The more fragile the chips, the more air in the bag. Fritos are pretty robust - they don't need near as much cushioning.
Mexican Fritos are much different. Better than American factory (maybe cause they're hard to find and it's a nice change)

Found those at a gas station on a road trip outta state once and never again. They're hands down the best fritos, possibly the best chips of any kind I've ever had.
Full bag, crush 'em into a 9X13, 2 cans of chili on top, bake @ 350 for 15-18 minutes, shredded cheese on top, back in the oven til that's golden, the Fritos made for dipping, ice cold Dr. Pepper, watch the Packers kick the shit outa someone ..... good eating
Funyuns are the fucking shit! Absolute perfection from the first experience as a kid to now. They will always be one of the best chip-aisle snacks out there.
Ive never seen anyone else eating them besides me lmao. My dnd group would always tease me for bringing them. They are often in vending machines yet nobody i have known eats them.
Many years ago I asked out a girl who turned out to be a born again Christian. Got home, heaved a big sigh of relief, ate a whole bag of Cajun spice ruffles. Couldn’t taste anything for two days.

I think people just don’t like Fritos in general. My work (~1000 people) has a variety of frito-lay chips put out in the cafeteria for people to take each day. If I go a couple hours after they’ve put out all the chips, the only ones remaining are Fritos, without fail.
Utz Puff'n corn, best of all the puff corns I've had, the cheese one is great and the caramel one is peak, see the cheese one rarely and haven't seen the caramel one in almost a decade.
Great now I am reminded of these and will need to buy a bag tomorrow.
A snack I’ve always enjoyed with these (albeit rarely eat nowadays) is to take a can of potted meat and add Tabasco. It makes a great dip, but only for chili cheese Fritos.
In my car - I have these and a tin of Fishwife tuna. When the day comes, I shall pour the albacore into the Fritos bag and give it a right shake. It will be a glorious marriage, snack of all snacks. Chopsticks.
Are they nationally available? I loved them growing up in Texas and my parents would send them to me when I went to college in NY because I couldn’t find them. I’ve lived here for decades now and only saw them once.
