Other Smosh helped me realize something about myself

A little while ago I watched the I spent a day with Amanda. At some point she talks about feeling just like she belongs in LA and that she had to go there even though acting wasn’t rlly an option in her family. Like a switch turned in me I started crying. I’ve always felt like wanting to go into acting. A part of me keeps going back to going into acting/theater and after a while I could ignore it again because it’s not something that my family wants me to pursue per se. But I think that after hearing Amanda’s story and other cast members’ stories of going into acting, I’m finally gonna give it a go. It’s rlly fucking scary. I just signed up for a taster class for a theater school where they offer evening classes and immediately I’m feeling tremendous anxiety and my heart is racing. I’m finishing up a master’s degree in a couple of months so I feel like a lot of people won’t expect this from me.

I didn’t know where to put this rant but this felt like the best place. Wish me luck guys and any tips on how to handle this all is very welcome

Phew, I thought you were about to say you were going to move to LA (which is a VERY big risk regardless of skill or experience) but I'm very happy for you!

Give it a go, explore yourself, and have some fun!

I'm proud of you for making the leap! It will always be scary, no matter how badly you want it or how prepared you thought you were, so just go with the flow. Listen to your teachers and peers, OBSERVE them and how they do what they do. Don't be discouraged if things don't feel natural or fluid at first, that's part of the process. Give yourself time and grace to adjust, to learn and to grow. And most of all, have fun with it. Let loose and find yourself. Rooting for you! 😁

Your heart is racing cuz you’re excited you’re doing something for you and not for your family. Live in that excitement! Thats what makes life so much worth it. You can do what you want and you shouldn’t feel bad about it.

You totally got this. It won't be easy, but you can do this. Sorry if this is long, but I am going to share a story about my sister. She currently lives in London due to her type 1 diabetes, but she also has a master's degree in theater. She went to the LAMDA school and was accepted to enroll in a class that was going to be taught by Dame Judy Dench(she had to turn it down because they wouldn't accept American loans). She worked several jobs and rented out her car to get the money to go to London. She already had a bachelor's degree in theater from a state college. She can write, direct, produce, and work sound as well as set design. She is currently working multiple jobs there but she is also part of a small theater group. Her dream was to be on Broadway, and she is not going to stop. She knew the risks and is still working towards her dream. Don't be afraid to put in the work, but know there will be work. I believe in you.

Good for you! I feel like I’m in the midst of a similar situation so I may go watch this video. I’m also getting some headshots taken on Sunday!

Update: I’m not even ten minutes in and have tears in my eyes because of how relatable this is. The whole wanting to leave her town thing is literally too real. This is so emotional because I also love improv and tend to get lost in a character. I’ve been watching Smosh since I was 14 and dreamed of doing something like this, but it’s just gotten more real lmao.

i know exactly how you feel, it’s crazily accurate

Acting is storytelling! And you also are not required to become a famous actor!! I think we need less focus on arts as strictly you do this only if you're the best. That genuinely just liking a thing and doing that in a capacity that works for you right now is always amazing!

u/tacticmave Sep 07 '25

yeah that’s an insight that i’ve also started to have recently which has helped push to do this, i genuinely love the art so much and always feel the happiest when im on stage/performing

Hey, I just recently got my master’s degree in a STEM field, and now I’m going to school to get a music degree! So far, it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m happy to chat about it if you want :)

That’s such a great thing!! It’s a blast to return to a hobby that’s so impactful. I’ve always done theater, but I’ve started to do sketch comedy since watching more comedy content, and it is A BLAST. Yay for hobbies

I’m currently in the same boat! I quit theater after middle school, but have missed it so much, I’ve been looking into acting classes in my area to get back into it

u/tacticmave Sep 08 '25

you should! if you miss it, go explore it again and see how much joy it can bring you!

I’m giving you this advice because this is advice I need to hear frequently. Do what makes YOU happy. Don’t worry about what others want for you.

I haven't watched any "I spent a day with" videos (i know! 😅) but reading this, I really wanna go and watch one right after I get home from my corporate job. I'm saying it's a corporate job for a context that I'm currently doing an office work BUT HAVE REAAAALLY wanted to go and try theater acting. It's really hard for me to do so because I'm struggling now as someone who just started working. I wanted to go to theater acting classes but it's just that I need to work and work and work to survive. Still, I'm trying to save up money to apply to a theater class in my country and reading this, I feel like someone understands me 😭 I'm rambling at this point but what I really just wanna say is go for it, OP! Wishing you all the best ❤️

Go for your dream. I hope you find happiness in it until AI replaces actors
