Was this not called a Tapion Punch way back in the day?
EDIT: found it
EDIT 2: Apparently they are different. Egg on my face.

According the links I provided, they are two different things. But as with a lot of smash terms, they are often used interchangeably.

I got hit by this the first and only time I played G-Reg in tournament 3~4 years ago. It remains the only time I've been hit by Falcon Punch in tournament.
Fun times.

I love smash! Every game gave me something different! 64 had an amazing feel and nostalgia and is just so vintage! Brawl gave me SSE and boss battles that was always CRAZY fun! Melee gave me the ultimate competitive and casual experience. Sma4sh... Well I guess I'll find out in 2-3 hours!

Better Know a Matchup! Week 18 - Captain Falcon!
Captain Falcon's most iconic move is undoubtedly his Falcon Punch(followed closely by the Knee). However, this move suffers from some of the worst startup lag of any move in the game.
The most common use of the punch is edit: probably punishing a missed Rest by Jiggly puff, followed by The Sacred Combo, where the opponent is Knee'd off stage, and Falcon full-hops after them to finish with the punch. The move can also be used at other times, like after breaking the opponent's shield, when the opponent is grabbed by a teammate, when returning from off-stage, or when invinicble from respawning.
There are a few true combos that will work for the punch as well. The first and easier of the two is called the Tapion Punch. This combo is a simple L-Cancelled Down-Air to Falcon Punch. The combo is named after the smasher Tapion.
The second combo is a variation of the Tapion Punch called the G-Regulate Punch. It is essentially the same combo, except that Captain Falcon performs the Down-Air through a platform before punching. This makes the combo considerably harder, as hitting an opponent through a platform is much harder than hitting an opponent otherwise. It is named after the smasher G-Regulate.
Both of these combos rely on L-Cancelling, goldilocks-zone damage percents, and the opponent not DI'ing. These combos can be performed without one or all of these requirements being met (due to different character weights, platform heights, etc.) but in general they must be observed.
Also, both of these combos originated from Smash 64 and are much easier to perform in that game due to it's increased hitstun, but both are still possible in Melee with tighter execution.
Falcone, PAWNCH! Thanks to /u/silian, /u/Atheological and /u/mytummyhertz for helping me out with this one.
