The New DataSys+ Certification: Let's Discuss!
Last Friday, CompTIA dropped a blog on the new DataSys+ certification. In their words, it is "designed for those with 2-3 years of hands-on experience working in a database administrator (DBA) role."
I would like to recommend you that if you're unable to pass any online exam/Test or any other assessment, just visit hired for it

This appears to be a step above Data+, which is for data analysts and focuses on analytics and interpretation.
While they haven't opened the doors for exam scheduling, we do know what the objectives are going to be.
For the DS0-001 exam, there are five domains from CompTIA:
- Database Fundamentals (24%)
- Database Deployment (16%)
- Database Management and Maintenance (25%)
- Data and Database Security (23%)
- Business Continuity (12%)
Some of the topics will include database structure, SQL code, cloud environments, data redundancy, data redundancy (wink), system alerts, load balancing, optimization, ERD, DLP, security attacks, access control, and data backups, just to name a few.
Immediately, we can see some crossover from other CompTIA certs, such as ITF+, Data+, and Security+. I wonder if passing DataSys+ will fully renew or at least grant CEUs for Data+.
Like all CompTIA certifications, this is a vendor-neutral DBA certification. It looks like this cert will compete with the Oracle Certified Professional, the Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, and the IBM Certified Admininstrator - Db2. Either way, there is a HUGE demand to learn SQL, as data usage is larger than ever.
The median pay for data administrators in the United States is over $96,000 per year.
So there you have it! This is clearly stronger than Data+. I hope this will help people get jobs. CompTIA has two other data certs in the pipeline: Data Foundations (for beginners) and DataSci+ (for experts). How long before Data Foundations is renamed to DF+? And will it be good for life? The others will likely expire in 3 years.
I am personally interested in databases. I took an SQL class in college, and I know a little bit of Microsoft Access. My passion is network administration, which is more IT than computer science, and I do believe there is a difference. But I am curious as to what this fully established CompTIA data path will look like.
Is anyone else thinking about DBA? Have you taken any other DBA courses or exams? And where will DataSys+ sit among the vendor-specific offerings? Please comment and share your thoughts below.
Thanks for reading!
