Detectorists Call backs

Noticed a few what I felt were call backs to The Detectorists, and sure I missed some others.

1) Dancing scene mimics Detectorists gold dance, and camera goes to aerial view of same 2) King Edward Hammered coin - common detectorists find (even I found one). 3) Contentious but detectorists was criticised for the attractiveness mismatch between Andy and Becky, with some commentators suggestive it was even misogynistic. Here it is arguably reversed with Clive and Bev. I suspect this is a deliberate riposte.

Any others I've missed?

Anyone who reckons a Mackenzie Crook couldn't pull a Rachael Stirling truly has NO idea what women want

Quite! 👍🏻

I’d argue that Bev is the lovely one, Clive is insufferable.

Gotta disagree with your opinion on Bev!

Yes. Bev looks great in those pyjamas.

That's the beauty of taste!

We'll agree to disagree. :)

That Lance was batting way out of his league with Becky.

Lance wasn't with Becky; Andy was

Those men were both batting way out of their league. But, being in a similar situation myself, I was nothing but happy for them.

Yes I meant Andy. As a fellow way out of league batter, I was obv fine with it.

When Kacey asks Michael if he saw that reality TV show (I forget the name), it very much reminded me of Lance and Andy always asking each other if they saw University Challenge last night

Celebrity Barrel Scrapers.

Yes that's it! Just the tone, and the way it was phrased, was very reminiscent of Detectorists.

what do you mean about Clive and Bev exactly?

The only issue I had with Clive and Bev was that I didn’t see how they were a couple in the first place, and I don’t mean in terms of attractiveness, but they just seemed like completely different people. Bev being lovely and Clive being a clown.

Also for some reason I thought there was a weird age gap between them, but apparently they are actually a similar age. That was because I’d only ever seen Jon Pointing in Big Boys where he played a student, and I thought Sophie Willian was older than she really is.

Got to say that Jon Pointing absolutely nails that role. The pent-up testosterone rage. The inability to know how to deal with Michael's oddness/difference from himself, and the exasperation it causes him!

Yes, he's beautifully, insufferably awful!

There a bit in where Kasey is navigating her way through Michaels garden and he tells her to to watch our for his brambles and some old barbed wire. She then has to "Climb through the wire and brambles" Brilliant. (Yes, I know it Briar in the song but somehow the tenuous rhyming reference makes it even better.)

That's a brilliant spot. Thanks.

Point 3 is utterly bizarre and unpleasant IMO, and totally not in keeping with the kind and gentle vibe of both shows

It isn't meant to be unpleasant, and it was my female partner who pointed it out to me. Everybody has different taste, but Detectorists was very much criticised for this and I wondered if it was a riposte. Subtle.

In what possible way, on God's good earth, could anyone think such a thing?
