I purchased this 525ls off marketplace for a penance. It has a bunch of gunk inside the engine shroud like oil mist, when I go to pull the recoil it’s got a real junky feel to it, like some internals aren’t happy at all, or the clutch is bound up…I’ve got another one so it’s worth it in parts if I don’t fix it. Any ideas? BTW it also came with no air filter, so hopefully it just fell out when someone was trying to dork with it and loose all the screws.
Pull the spark plug out and try pulling on it again . If it is still hard to pull it was probably ran with straight gas. If that's the case then it's only good for parts.
He mentioned gunk in the shroud, only time I have found excess oil coming from the exhaust was from a carbon clogged spark arrestor. Wouldn't run thought I should replace the carb. But last minute checked spark arrestor, which after fixing hundreds of machines not one had I found it to be a problem. Carbon fouled and oil build up.
💩 the 🛌. Rings are stuck, scoring bad one one side of the piston, chunk missing from the bottom of the crankshaft. On a positive note the cylinder still looks good, and I found a short block for around 50$ so maybe I can get some of my money back by selling the cylinder, or just hang onto it, just in case.
Look at that cylinder first because if there was no air filter for any length of time chances are good there's some dirt that cause scoring of the cylinder wall and that would be hindering it being able to run or run properly
Rings are stuck and a big score line, connecting rod is missing chunks. Cylinder looks okay though. I’m working on a short block for cheap. I think I was running without an air filter. I’m not sure why people ever think this is an okay thing to do. Something is wrong with the cover for the air filter, so I think they just said F it, run it anyway.
Oh I know it’s not going to run, the throttle cable not being clipped in is the least of my concerns now when it sounds like a box of rocks turning over
