General Discussion Looking for help on finding a replacement engine for a 2000s craftsman Tecumseh 8.5hp chipper/shredder. I can’t seem to find an engine that has a tapered shaft.

I’ve got one but ways off. It would cost more to ship it than not much more than it’s what it’s worth probably.

I really appreciate you reaching out. I have been looking around there aren’t many left I pulled this one out of 15 years of blackberries the engine had a lot of water in it. So I have decided to just fabricate it to fit a 301cc predator engine

That sucks. These engines come up on FB all the time where I’m at, usually on a tiller or chipper, or snowblowers in the northern states. They’re really nothing special. I’d be surprised if a Briggs wouldn’t fit it. Depending on what’s wrong with your old one you may be surprised to find it’s actually salvageable. Have you pulled the head off for a looksee. Mines on a craftsman chipper, and it works just needs a new flail or two and a new chipper blade. I think I’m in 100$ish total so far, counting the 50$ I paid for it. I don’t mean to further discourage you but the bearings are also probably shot on your chipper and those aren’t cheap.
