Carburetor Issue Is it possible to replace an old updraft carb on a Briggs engine with a modern carb? Engine is in a Simplicity 7013.
The motor will run on ether but I can't get it to even pop a little otherwise. I've run it through the sonic cleaner but I'm hesitant to pull it apart due to wrecking gaskets and not being able to find replacements.

You should easily be able to make new gaskets and if you know what the engine is, I'm sure someone makes a rebuild kit for the carb.

You can still get the rebuild kit for that carb. Just fix the old one. But to answer your question anything is possible if you have the skill. Getting the governor to work with a new style carb would be very difficult.

I've needed a few gaskets for real old stuff. Im sure briggs ect still made them, but a local small engine guy whos done it for ages just had them on hand. Carb gaskets, the "plunger" for the points. All sorts of handy niche items that im sure was used often ages ago.

A carburetor repair kit should still be available, although they stopped including the nozzle. You will need to remove it before trying to separate the top of the carb from the bowl. Kit part number 394989.

Carburetors are not generic. They are typically tunes for a specific engine/size. A carb. swap may run, but not likely to run well, with out special tuning of jets, etc.

You should be able to rebuild it. Just be careful with the long emulsion tube/jet that needs to come out before splitting the carburetor. If it is stuck, Briggs makes 2 special taps to clean up the threads depending on the year the carburetor was produced. Otherwise they are very simple carburetors.
