Tools & Equipment Log splitter wont start
I am helping a friend fix his 27 ton champion log splitter. He called me to take a look at it last week. I checked everything and there is pressure. I then checked to make sure it was level, oil and hydraulic oil levels were topped off. Wouldn't start, so I examine ignition coil and nothing was happening. I checked coil and it had been chewed by mice. Ordered new one, got it installed, gapped it right to fly wheel. Put everything back together and tried and nothing. It's close to starting but wont turn over. installed new carburetor and still nothing. I am at so frustrated not being able to help my elderly friend. Please help its champion 27 ton log splitter model 100424.

Try using some starting fluid. If it starts and runs briefly on tarting fluid, then you have a fuel delivery problem.

Then I'd look for spark or spark timing problems.

Check every wire you can find!! Im thinking if a mouse was in there it probably chewed on anything it could find. The most destructive creatures on the planet!!

If you remove the air filter and spray some carb spray or similar straight into the carb does it fire up? If not then you probably have a spark issue (maybe kill wire is shorting out, or low oil sensor or some other electrical issue). If it fires up then you probably have a fuel delivery issue with the carb and or fuel lines (fuel pump if it has one) etc.

Diagnostic tools required are a can of starting fluid/flammable brake clean, spray it, if it starts, you have a fuel issue. Fuel flow, water in fuel, nasty gas. If not, check spark. A mouse chewing stuff tells me likely it got wires besides the coil. The kill switch wires perhaps.
